Re: Comprehensive Plan Update
Date: February 13, 2015
The Comprehensive Plan has been described as having two main deliverables: Goals and Implementation
Strategies and a Future Land Use Map. Staff is pleased to share with the Planning Board the Goals and
Implementation Strategies have been completed and endorsed by the Citizen Advisory Committee and are
attached to this memo. This concludes the work in Chapter 3: Framing the Policy and the final report is
currently being drafted by staff for your approval.
Chapter 4: Visualizing the Future or the Future Land Use Map is the next phase of the comprehensive
plan. Staff has crafted a draft map for our community to review and provide input. Currently, staff is
holding community meetings where we are gathering significant input on the way in which New Hanover
County will develop over the next 25 years. Attached to this memo are a draft Future Land Use Map and
the associated place type cutsheets outlining each type of development. Staff is eager to discuss this with
you at our work session.
