1.Sheryl called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. She went over the agenda and the documents given out
to the committee. The documents were a list from the MLK Celebration from a couple of years ago to
show what events MLK holds; funding history for the agencies; last years’ scoring information; average
score scatter plot; and a list of agencies/programs sorted into three tiers according to their rubric scores.
2.The members read over the minutes from the March 7, 2019 meeting and indicated that Fred’s name was
left off the list of attendees. Gwen will correct the minutes to include Fred’s name in the list of attendees.
3.There was much discussion on the funding. The committee took the average score scatter plot and
recommended funding the first 17 agencies at 100%; the next nine agencies will be recommended for
funding at 95%; and the balance of seven agencies will be funded at 90%. This approach is in keeping
with the methodology used by the Committee last year, and the Committee felt it important to ensure
consistency each year irrespective of funding availability. Wheel of Hope will not be recommended for
funding because the majority of the funding request is for salaries, and the agency also has a limited
demonstrated history of service delivery; First Fruit Ministries will not be recommended for funding
because the agency only requested funding for capital (vehicle purchase); and Elderhaus PACE will be
recommended at $15,000 to use for technology (computers and security). The marketing and capital
components of the Elderhaus PACE request will not be recommended. This brings the total of
recommended funding to $970,116, leaving an unallocated balance of $29,884.
4.Sheryl stated the recommended funding for agencies will be presented to the Board of Commissioners in
mid-May and that we would let the committee know if they are requested to do a presentation, otherwise,
we would keep the committee informed.
5.The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 pm.
