BOARD OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD

Present: Chairman Addison Hewlett, Dr. J. C. Wessell,
Mr. H. M. Roland and Dr. W. Houston Moore.
The minutes of the July meeting were read and approv-
ed. (There was no official August meeting).
After a general discussion of the sewage disposal system
in Burnt Mill Creek at the New Bern Railroad t1'6stle, on motion
of Dr. Wessell, seconded by Dr. Moore, the Health Officer was
authorized to write the City Officials urging the repair of the
tide gate and dam and the repair of the sewerage line up to the
tide gate.
Dr. Moore read a letter from Mr. H. R. Emory,of the Housing
Authority of the City of Wilmington, complaining of the smoke from
the trash dump southwest of the Nesbitt Courts - the trash dump
being used since the incinerator has been out of commission. The
Health Officer was instructed to write the City Officials urging
that the new incinerator be installed as quickly as possible.
After the Health Officer explained to the Board members that
the appropriating authorities had given an increase to all the
pe~sonnel except the technician, clinician's helper and plumbing
inspector, (these individuals failed to be in the various groups
given a raise), on motion of Dr. Moore, seconded by Mr. Roland,
these three members of the Department were given a flat $10.00
per month raise out of the balance from last year's budget.
At the Health Officer's request, the clerk's salary was
raised from $95.00 to $100.00 per month (out of that balance).
There being no further business the Board adjourned.
