C. Knox, Dr. James H. Smith. The minutes of the last meeting Here r"ad and approved. The He~lth Officer presentpd the monthly reports. A committee from the Plum~ing Organization consisting of Mr. Geo. Allen hoore, hr. L. 0. Goodyear and hr. G. B. Smith appeared before the board primarily to discuss wheth8r or not our board would permit the use of cast iron drum traps and spuds in lllilmineton and Ne-, Hanover County. I'ir. Goodyear broucht out the fact that in poorly constructed houses lead Hould II g~L veil and cast iron would not. All three of the plumbers expressed themselves as believ- ing that lead Has better than cast iron. Mr. Goodyear explained to the board members that their organization conducted plwlbing schools one night a week in order to teach high school boys their trade in an effort to improve their profession. ~ Mr. Goodye~r suggested that the He3lth Board consider the advisability of increasing the salary and tra,vel allm;ance of the Plumbing Inspector and also suggested that this could venJ easily be done by clarging a flat rate of Jl.OO for every plwabing fixture. He said that their organization had in mind a man tnat they would like to recommend provided the salary was raised to around ~300.00 per month and an adequate travel allowance provided. .... Mr. hoore advised the Board members that, in his oplnlon, our department had a very good pl~~bing code and that it should not be weakened or changed to permit the use of cast iron fixtures. After a brief discussion, it was moved by Dr. Wessell, seconded by I'~yor White, that our plwcbing ordinance not be changed to permit the use of cast iron drum traps and spuds. Carried. The employment of an Acting Plumbing Inspector in the place of Mr. Schrader, who is ill, was considered; hOHever, there was no uniform agreement on the selection of any of the four applicants. Dr. Wessell specificially asked to be recorded as being of the oplnlon that the PlliI'lbing Inspector's Hork was very important and that a rnan should be em- ploo'ed in this position. . In connection with the plumbing work, the Health Ufficer was instructed to notify all contracting plumbers that they must get their applications in be- fore -che \vork is started. .. - There beine no further business, the meetin[ adjourned.
