04/04/1979 OC758 MINUTES OF BOARD OF HEALTII - April 4, 1979 Present: All Members of the Board and Mr. James C. Fox, County Attorney Absent: None - Minutes of the March meeting were approved as presented. Certificate of Appreciation: Dr. James Furr was recognized by the Board for his contribution to Public Health during his term of membership on the Board of Health. A certificate signed by members of the Board and Dr. Finger was presented to hill. Environmental Health Report: Mr. Frank Olive, Supervisor of Environmental Sanitation, gave a report on the many programs under his section. His report included Drainage and Insect and Rodent Control. A copy of his report is being sent to each Board member and put on file in the Department. South Branch Subdivision: Nineteen applications had been submitted prior to auction of lots in this sub-division. These lots were evaluated by our Department and Soil Conservation Service, but none have been approved by the Health Department to date. A statement was placed on these applications as follows: "Due to the high clay content of the sub-soil on this lot, a carefully engineered alternative system for septic tank waste may have to be installed on this lot." This report was given for information only. .._ Immunization Report: A written report was given to the Board by Mrs. Marian Duggins, PHN Supervisor, on special activities during Immunization Month. Report from Committee to Organize Symposium on Sewage Disposal: Dr. Eakins reported that his Co~ittee has received information from many of the agencies that have been contacted and talked with many key persons. The two most involved groups are N. C. Department of Natural Resources and Human Development, especially the Environmental Management Division; and the N. C. Department of Human Resources, Division of Health Services Sanitary Engineering Section. The Sub-Committee made a motion that "the Board of Health of New Hanover County sponsor a one to two day symposium on water supply and waste water disposal in New Hanover County, to set this up on possibly a Friday and/or sometille Saturday this summer. Time, location, advertising, program, etc, will be placed in the hands of a sub-colllDlittee, to be appointed by the Chairll8Jl." Motion was seconded and carried. Letter froll Dr. Morrow to Dr. Eaton: Copy of named letter had been received by Dr. Eakins. He read it to the Board for information only. Revision of Family Planning Program Funds: Due to the lateness in beginning the teenage project, Region "0" Family Resources and Division of Health Services have agreed for us to transfer lapsed salary funds to supplies, travel, and equipment. Dr. Finger requested the Board to approve the transfer of these funds and to present this request to the Commissioners for approval.
