The following motion was presented: MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED by Joe Irrera, that the minutes of the September st 1 meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Voice of the Customer. There was no Voice of the Customer this month. Tara asked if anyone had suggestions on future topics for Voice of the Customer to please let her know. 2. Top of Mind Topics. A question was posed regarding the closing of Snows Cut Park. Tara shared that a demolition permit must be obtained before the park is returned to its natural state. Also, Nick Leger asked when is the expected date on the Hanover Pines playground? Tara shared that we are waiting on the driveway permit from DOT, which she anticipates will be some time in December. Once the permit is received, the project must be put to bid and then the contract process begins. Expect it to take 9 to 12 months to complete. However, the parts have all been ordered as they are coming from Europe. 3. Director/Staff Q&A. Tara outlined some of the projects currently going on. We are adding the American Ninja Warrior Course at Long Leaf Park where the equestrian ring was along with a new adult basketball court. Andy has gotten the necessary permits and once they are finalized, we will move forward. The course will be delivered the day after Thanksgiving. Once it is installed, the basketball court will be installed as well as a sunshade structure. Once all of that has been completed, the existing basketball court will be modified into a youth court with shorter goals and kid-friendly colors. The tennis courts at Long Leaf will be resurfaced and new lights installed. Quotes have been received for the design of the North College and South College Road trail. A kick-off meeting was held recently with Timmons who will be doing the design for Northern Regional Park. The design will take about 9 months to a year to complete. Next fiscal year we will have the funds to construct, which will offer additional rectangular fields. We are still in negotiations with Susan Hatchell Designs for Smith Creek Park Phase 2. Andy then shared that the Snows Cut Park demo was pushed back due to permits but should be NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 2 REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 3, 2021 rescheduled soon. Also at Ogden Park, there was a connector piece of trail constructed near the baseball field side of the park that continues all the way out to the exit. When the DOT finishes up Ogden Business Lane, you will be able to go all the way from Middle Should Loop into Ogden Park on a bike or walking. She added that we have six deputies that patrol the parks each day. They have been wonderful, and their communication is great. They really care and spend a lot of time with the kids in the park, which is nice. Jodi Rich provided visuals of the playground structure that has been ordered for Hanover Pines Park. She highlighted some of the unique features of the play structure which staff feels will be appreciated by those that use it. st 4. Next Meeting.
