Adjournment NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 1 REGULAR MEETING MARCH 2, 2022 ASSEMBLY The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Airlie Cottage. Present: John Hinnant (presiding), Joe Irrera, Nicholas Leger, , and Malik Shabazz. (All Via Microsoft Teams) Absent: Pete Wildeboer Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, and Jodi Rich. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by John Hinnant who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the February meeting. The following motion was presented: nd MOTION: Joe Irrera MOVED; SECONDED by , that the minutes of the March 2 meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Voice of the Customer. John asked for suggestions of possible guests for future meetings. He shared that maybe we could have the rugby group, Sevens, come for the voice of the customer. Nick Leger is a member of that group, and he will reach out to the president (Brooks Robinson) to see if he would be available for the April meeting. Andy will reach out to the ultimate frisbee and disc golf clubs as possible attendees as well. The YMCA as well as the Latino Festival was also suggested. 2. Top of Mind Topics. There were no topics to discuss. 3. Director/Staff Q&A. Tara reported that she is working on getting the easements for the Middle Sound Loop and Market Street Trails. Also, still waiting to get final DOT permit for Hanover Pines. Cape Fear Public Utility Authority is getting ready to do an easement at Arrowhead Park. This will not be a permanent impact as they are putting in a sewer line. The timeline completion by June or July. Andy shared that resurfacing of the Long Leaf Park tennis courts has been put out for bid and we hope to have the proposals back in the next couple of weeks. Additionally, the multipurpose trail for Northern Regional Park (1.7 miles) has been put out for bid as well. Jodi Rich shared that she is currently working on expanding programming to encompass the th parks and not just Airlie. There will be a walking tour on Mark 19 with our environmental educators at Pages Creek and more nature walks and educational programming is forthcoming. There is a group from UNCW that is working on a study on programming in the parks. They will put together a survey to aid us devising programs such as tennis and wellness in the parks as well as aquatics and tennis programing at Echo Farms. The pool will be opening soon, and we are looking for lifeguards. The board was asked if they know anyone who might be interested in being a lifeguard at Echo Farms to let us know. NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 2 REGULAR MEETING MARCH 2, 2022 Tara also shared that the budget has been submitted. Department heads will meet with the management team to pitch any enhancements they have. The budget will then be presented to the Commissioners in June. She has asked for the funding for Arrowhead pickleball court, as we did last year. Since Snows Cut has been closed and we have not heard anything else from the community. The Army Corps of Engineers want us to remove the pavement. th 4. Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 6. 5. Adjournment. John asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED by Nicholas Leger, that the meeting be adjourned. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Meeting adjourned at 8:40am.
