Minutes 08 17 2023 LAB MINUTES 08 17 2023 LAB 1 Library Advisory Board August 17, 2023 Assembly: The Library Advisory Board met in Regular Session on Thursday, at 1:30 pm at the Main Library, 201 Chestnut Street. Board Members Assael, Shaun EXCUSED Baish, Mary Alice PRESENT Carbone, Liz PRESENT Conlon, Dennis PRESENT Dodd, Scott PRESENT Smith, Ida PRESENT Hennessey, Christine PRESENT Kozik, Lynn PRESENT Lawler, Patricia PRESENT Miles, Linda PRESENT Staff Members & Board Reps. Conners, Dana PRESENT Mays, Yvette PRESENT Zimmer, Ronna (Foundation Rep) PRESENT Brimberry, Tom (Friends Rep) EXCUSED Welcome Chair Linda Miles convened the meeting at 1:33 pm. We have five vacancies on the board. • Mary Alice Baish & Kevin Maurer will not be accepting a 2nd term. • Dennis Conlon has completed his 2nd term. • Amy Grant has resigned with a year left in her 1st term. • Scott Dodd has completed his 1st term and has applied for a 2nd term. The County Commissioners will appoint new members at their August meeting. Public Comment No public comments. Agenda Review No changes. MINUTES 08 17 2023 LAB 2 Approval of Previous Minutes The minutes from the last board meeting on June 9, 2023, were sent to the board prior to the meeting for review. Motion: Mary Alice Baish MOVED, SECONDED by Dennis Conlon, to accept the minutes of the 06/09/23 meeting as written. Upon vote, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Correspondence None received. Friends of the Library Tom Brimberry was unable to attend the meeting but did email the board to report a successful membership night at the summer book sale. He will report on other activities at a future meeting. Library Foundation Ronna Zimmer reported the board met and will be hosting a Fall Breakfast Fundraiser in November. She will update the board once details are finalized. Director’s Report Dana Conners reported: Projects • Project Grace – At the Aug 7th meeting, the NHC Board of Commissioners approved the amended development agreement to move forward. The project cost came in at 56 million. The Local Government Commission (LGC) was sent the county’s request for the project. We hope to get on the Sept agenda. o The next Commissioners meeting will be 8/21 at 9am. The public is allowed to make comments. • Northchase - Moved to design development. The site will include an outdoor pavilion for children, multiple private study rooms, and a bike trail that ends at the library. Concept photos were shared with the board. By December plans should be ready to send out to bid. Staff • One Library Assistant vacancy at the Main Library • Two new part-time staff at the Northeast Library Programs • Read Across the County: Brendan Slocumb, author of The Violin Conspiracy, will be speaking at the Northeast Library. 8/26 2:30 – 4:00. Registration is required. • Summer Book Sale: raised 77,000. We need more volunteers to sort books throughout the year. MINUTES 08 17 2023 LAB 3 Other • NHC has passed their new Strategic Plan. The library’s plan ends this year, and we will be working with the NHC Strategic Planning dept. to update our plan. • Local History report: Dana emailed the history collection consultant’s report to the board. The Deaccession Policy, Fair Use Policy and Loan Policy will be voted on at the next meeting. To prepare our collection for the move we have $45,000 to purchase archival boxes, paper, etc. Committee Reports None. New Business None. Old Business Chair Linda Miles reported that board members are now required to attend meetings in person. Dana Conners forwarded the email from the county’s Clerk to the Board that provides more information on the policy and procedures.
