President Absent: Dawn McKernan Staff Present: Ruth Haas, CFM Director Jane O’Brien, CFM Administration The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dean Gattone at 4:04 PM. Approval of Minutes: Lowell Soucie A motion to accept the June 17, 2009, minutes was made by Dean Gattone, seconded by John Haley, and approved unanimously. Consideration of Absences: Lowell Soucie Dawn McKernan was noted absent. Chairman’s Report: Dean Gattone Dean introduced and welcomed Jack Bragg and Beth Dawson, new members of the Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board. Tom Cunningham, Cape Fear Museum Associates, Inc. President was welcomed as the Ex-officio board member. Each board member made a personal introduction stating their background, what inspired them to become a board member and what they hoped to accomplish during their term. The Chairman’s goal for the coming year is see an increase in board member participation in Museum activities. The floor was opened to discussion on Board commitment. o Ways you can participate as board members. o Ways you can participate in Museum activities. o Identification of barriers to participation. o Action steps to increase board member participation. MINUTES MUSEUM ADVISORY BOARD MEETING July 15, 2009 2009-10 Board Dean Gattone Chair Stuart Ball Vice Chair Lowell Soucie Secretary R. Jack Bragg Linda Chapman Elizabeth Dawson John Haley Dawn McKernan Jack Mills Bill Terrell Jonathan Barfield, Jr. NHC Commissioner Ex-officio: Tom Cunningham CFMA, Inc. 2 Board Committees: Dean Gattone Dean presented the various Board committees and their purposes. Board members were asked to consider each committee and be prepared to make their choice at the August board meeting. He is available to discuss specific committees with board members prior to the August meeting. Strategic Planning committee: Ruth Haas Ruth distributed the Achievement Indicators Report for FY 09 for board review. Visitation and revenues were both up significantly. The total membership for the year was 499, with double the number of family memberships. The Ocean Exhibit played a major part in increased participation for the year. Directors Update Report: Ruth Haas Budgets for both the Cape Fear Museum Associates, Inc. and the Cape Fear Museum operating and grant budgets were presented. Clarification was made regarding the proposed budget to the actual amounts awarded in the reports provided Required furlough for FY10 was reviewed and how it is affecting staff and the daily museum operations. Appeal letters are going out this week from CFMA, Inc. to select corporations from CFMA, Inc. requesting support for the Cape Fear Stories exhibit. There being no further business a motion to adjourn was made by John Haley and seconded by Jack Mills. The meeting adjourned at 5:20 PM. The next board meeting will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at 4:00 PM in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
