The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bill Terrell at 4:00 PM. Approval of Minutes: John Haley Motion for approval of January 2009 minutes as submitted. Motion was made by Secretary Haley and seconded by Dean Gattone. Motion passed. Consideration of Absences: John Haley Bob Jones is excused. Collections Committee Report: Lowell Soucie The committee submitted a request for de-accession of all the trolley crossties due to their poor condition. Specifically, notations were: o When Ann Griffith rotates off in June, only two board members will be women. o Zip Code analysis indicates the areas 28401 and 28403 are not represented; most members live in 28411 and 28409. o 􀀭􀁒􀁑􀁄􀁗􀁋􀁄􀁑􀂶􀁖􀀃p rofile should also include marketing and his Zip Code changed to 28409. o There are only two board members under the age of 40. o Need to focus on 21st Century IT. o There are only two African Americans currently on the board and no one of Hispanic heritage. Recruiters should follow up with potential candidates to encourage applications. o Ruth will be happy to conduct in-depth museum tours for potential candidates. Long Range Planning Committee Report: John Haley A slate of officers for the new fiscal year 09-10 will be presented at the June 2009 meeting. Programs and Accreditation Report: Ruth Haas for Bob Jones Signatures for the revised Code of Ethics are being collected at this time. All staff, board members and volunteers are required to sign. Facilities Committee: Jack Mills Work on the courtyard is progressing nicely and it is looking wonderful. Hands On Wilmington adopted the project and facilitated volunteers from Home Depot and Thomas Construction Corporation. The Residents of Old Wilmington donated $480 for trees in the courtyard. The courtyard is expected to be completed in time for the June 15, 2009 annual meeting and exhibit reception. Directors Update Report: Ruth Haas The museum did not receive the IMLS grant. Ruth shared information on how the grant applications are reviewed and rated. She also noted areas where Cape Fear Museum can improve a future application. An annual appeal will be going out again this year. 􀀷􀁋􀁈􀀃􀀦􀁒􀁘􀁑􀁗􀁜􀀃􀀰􀁄􀁑􀁄􀁊􀁈􀁕􀀃􀁓􀁕􀁈􀁖􀁈􀁑􀁗􀁈􀁇􀀃􀁗􀁋􀁈􀀃􀁓􀁕􀁒􀁓􀁒􀁖􀁈􀁇􀀃􀀩􀀼􀂶􀀓􀀜-10 budget to the New Hanover County Commissioners on May 18, 2009. The budget is set for final 􀁄􀁓􀁓􀁕􀁒􀁙􀁄􀁏􀀃􀁄􀁗􀀃􀁗􀁋􀁈􀀃􀀦􀁒􀁐􀁐􀁌􀁖􀁖􀁌􀁒􀁑􀁈􀁕􀂶􀁖􀀃􀁐􀁈􀁈􀁗􀁌􀁑􀁊􀀃􀁒􀁑􀀃􀀭􀁘􀁑􀁈􀀃􀀕􀀕􀀏􀀃􀀕􀀓􀀓􀀜􀀑􀀃 $50,000 earmarked for exhibits 􀁚􀁄􀁖􀀃􀁆􀁘􀁗􀀃􀁉􀁕􀁒􀁐􀀃􀁗􀁋􀁈􀀃􀁐􀁘􀁖􀁈􀁘􀁐􀂶􀁖􀀃􀁕􀁈􀁔􀁘􀁈􀁖􀁗􀁈􀁇􀀃􀁅􀁘􀁇􀁊􀁈􀁗. Board members were encouraged to continue their advocacy campaign in support of the museum. The latest edition of the museum newsletter has gone out. Board members indicated that they liked the new look. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 5:17 PM. The next board meeting will be on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at 4:00 PM in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
