Nolan O'Neal, Vice-Chairman Board of County Commissioners = 4, " RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO CLOSE A PUBLIC ~OAD WHEREAS, a petition has been filed pursuant to N.C.G.S 153A-241, requesting the Board of Commissioners of New Hanover County to close the following described public road: Being all of Perry Road (24 ft. right-of-way) in Cape Fear Township, commencing approximately 40 feet south from the western right-of-way of the Castle Hayne Road (Hwy. 117), Maple Street intersection extending south, southwest for a distance of 1,700 feet to its termination with Sycamore Street and being same portion as recorded in Book 1326, Page 1548 of the New Hanover County Registry. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board is considering closing said road to public use, and that a public hearing on this question will be held on the 20th day of June, 1988 at 9 o'clock a.m. in the Assembly Room of the County Administration Building, 320 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, at which time the Board will hear all interested citizens and make a final determination as to whether the unopened road shall be closed. Shell - Internal Auditor o 'I u. . . t ............................................................................................................ .~ 1JJoarb of (!tolluninsioners l)roClatllation New Buttuner (!tUU1lty WHEREAS, public transportation is vi tal to the growth and continued economic, social and environmental well-being of the County of New Hanover, in that it is the principal tool available to county government to combat traffic congestion and the resulting degradation of this county's air quality; and WHEREAS, Public Transit provides the only form of mobility for the "transportation dependent" of society--the poor, the young, the handicapped and the elderly; and WHEREAS, federal financial support for transit has been reduced by over thirty percent in the last four years; and WHEREAS, this retreat on the part of the federal government will result in higher fares and reduced service unless halted; and 4 WHEREAS, a successful counter-attack to combat the loss of federal funds will require the active support of all the citizens of our counties; and WHEREAS, The National Association of Counties and The United States Conference of Mayors have declared Wednesday, May 18, 1988, as National Transit Appreciation Day and has called upon all local elected officials to join in a national mobilization to highlight for all citizens the vital role that transit plays in the life of counties. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, John M. Dolan, Chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners, proclaim Wednesday, May 18, 1988, as TRANSIT APPRECIATION DAY and call upon all citizens to recognize the vi tal role of transit in this county.
