Nancy Pritchett Dean Gattone Lowell Soucie Jack Mills Don Fishero Virginia Chiarello Bill Terrell John Haley Absent: Grace Mosley-Byrd Linda Chapman Ann Griffith Also Present: Ruth Haas, CFM Director Jane O’Brien, CFM Administrative Support Specialist Nancy Buckingham, CFM Development Coordinator Barbara Rowe, CFM Curator The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. Bill Terrell, CFM Advisory Board Chair called the meeting to order at 4:04 PM. Approval of Minutes: Dean Gattone Minutes of July 19, 2006 were reviewed and approved. A motion was made by Don Fishero and seconded by Nancy Pritchett. Motion passed. Consideration of Absences: Dean Gattone Grace Mosley-Byrd, Linda Chapman and Ann Griffith were excused. Associates Report: Rachel Pace Encouraged everyone to participate in the Bruce Cavenaugh Charity Raffle on behalf of the CFMA, Inc. Discussed the status of the upcoming feasibility study for the capital campaign. Collections Report: John Haley The revised collection policy was distributed for the board’s review. After review the policy will be submitted for approval at the September meeting. The current deaccessions list was presented. Motion to approve was made by Dean Gattone. Motion passed. MINUTES CFM Advisory Board Meeting August 16, 2006 2 CFM Advisory Board Meeting Minutes, August 16, 2006 The Collections Committee recommended approval of loans to the Onslow County Museum for the period September 28, 2006 through May 17, 2007, for an exhibit, Rites of Passage. The following items were considered: 1990.082.0004 Baptismal Gown, white cotton, 1910 Sternberger Family 1990.082.0005 Slip, Christening (worn w/above) 1992.081.0003 Pair of ivory kid wedding shoes worn by Alice Thorne Kingsbury, 1895 1987.034.0061 Wedding vows, 3 pages, handwritten for Miss Rivenbark, ca. 1888 Motion to approve was made by John Haley and seconded by Dean Gattone. Motion passed. Directors Report: Ruth Haas The new 2006-2007 Educator’s Guide was distributed to board members. Handouts on school programs, exhibits and public events for August 2006-July 2007 were circulated to the board members. Ruth gave a brief update. Rachel requested that First Friday Jazz be added. Museum Educator Jennifer Peters has resigned to take employment with the Pender County Schools. New Business: Bill Terrell The 2006-2007 Committee Chairs are as follows: o Collections – John Haley o Facilities – Jack Mills o Museum Programs – Chris Abrons o Strategic Planning – Don Fishero Bill asked board member to review the duties of each committee and choose the committee(s) where they feel their skills will be most useful. Action Items: Bill Terrell In preparation for the September meeting members were urged to review the strategic planning/vision for the Museum. Begin to prepare for the joint board retreat to be held in November. With no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Dean Gattone. The meeting adjourned at 4:50 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
