Absent: Ann Griffith Linda Chapman Virginia Chiarello Also Present: Ruth Haas, CFM Director Jane O’Brien, CFM Administrative Support Specialist Terri Hudgins, CFM Registrar Barbara Rowe, CFM Curator The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. Don Fishero, CFM Advisory Board Chair called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of October 19, 2005 meeting, November 2005 joint board retreat, and January 18, 2006 minutes were reviewed and approved. A motion was made by Donald Patience and seconded by Don Fishero. Motion passed. Consideration of Absences: Don Fishero Linda Chapman and Ann Griffith were excused. Chairman’s Report: Don Fishero Members were reminded to contact the Board Secretary if they they could not attend a Board meeting. CFM Inc. Associates Report: Rachel Pace The 2006 Gala was a big success with net income in excess of $30,000. Beth Quinn did a wonderful job as its chair. The Gala Committee met on 2/14/06 to review the event. More information will follow on the final results. Rachel asked for feedback from the CFM Advisory Board and received positive comments from all who attended. The 2007 Gala will be held on February 3, 2007. MINUTES CFM Advisory Board Meeting February 15, 2006 CFM Advisory Board Meeting Minutes February 15, 2006 Page 2 The Passport Program will be funded this year by a $100 donation from each participating attraction. Approximately twenty attractions are expected to participate. CFMA, Inc. has agreed to be the funding agent for handling the money. The Long Range Planning Committee met on 2/14/06 regarding the Leadership Awareness Program. The first familiarization program is scheduled for March 7, 2006 at 8:00 AM and is anticipated to include Gala sponsors. Anticipate an update on the feasibility study in late August 2006. The Associates Board will be deciding on an irrevocable endowment fund. Louise Sprunt is a new CFMAB member. James Smith has resigned. His position will be filled. Denise Van Essendelft is the new Administrative Assistant for CFMAB, and is doing an excellent job. Committee Reports: Don Fishero Linda Chapman will serve on the Strategic Planning Committee and Lowell Soucie will serve on the Collections Committee. Both will serve through the end of June 2006. Don reviewed all committees and the members who serve on each. Two new standing committees may be developed for 2007. Don gave a brief report on the first Commissioners meeting on the Green Space Bond Issue. All CFMAB members were encouraged to attend the next Commissioners meeting on Monday, March 13, 2006 at 2:00 PM, as the Museum master plan will be presented at this meeting. Action Items: Barbara Rowe and Terri Hudgins A request to extend the artifact loan to UNCW Randall Library was presented. Extension was approved. Motion made by Nancy Pritchett and seconded by Don Fishero. Motion passed. Entertained discussion on request from Cameron Art Museum for artifact loan to run March 1, 2006 to May 21, 2006. Request for loan was approved. Motion made by Donald Patience and seconded by Chris Abrons. One opposition. Motion passed. The next Collections Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 4:00 PM at the Cape Fear Museum. CFM Advisory Board Meeting Minutes February 15, 2006 Page 3 Directors Report: Ruth Haas Ruth distributed the 2007 proposed Museum Operating Budget, Grassroots Sciences Budget, and Exhibit Design Master Plan Budget. Review and discussion followed with Ruth answering specific questions from the Board. Market and merit increases will be requested in the 2007 budget. Replacement of first floor exhibits was reviewed. Dan Murphy will be returning on March 27 and 28, 2006. Update on Williston Auditorium. Plan to have Board members review the updates in the Learning Center during the March meeting. New Business Nancy Pritchett shared information on a Christmas weekend project for children, which was once held at the Museum. She donated an invitation from a previous program to the Museum for its collections. Chris Abrons gave an overview of the Museum’s upcoming Pi Day event to be held on March 14, 2006. Ruth briefed the Board on CFM staff retreat held at the Northeast Library on February 13, 2006. Sunday, March 5, 2006 is “Be A Tourist In Your Own Home Town” and Board members were encouraged to attend. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Don Fishero at 5:30 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
