Absent: Nancy Pritchett Linda Chapman Chris Abrons Ann Griffith Also Present: Ruth Haas, CFM Director Jane O’Brien, CFM Administrative Support Specialist Nancy Buckingham, CFM Development Coordinator Jack Mills, CFMA Associates, Inc. The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. Don Fishero, CFM Advisory Board Chair called the meeting to order at 4:02 PM. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of March 15, 2006 were reviewed and approved. A motion was made by Donald Patience and seconded by John Haley. Motion passed. Consideration of Absences: Don Patience Nancy Pritchett, Chris Abrons, Linda Chapman and Ann Griffith were excused. Associates Report: Rachel Pace Rebecca Philpott began on April 4 as the new Administrative Assistant Two Leadership Awareness Breakfasts have been held. The Gala sponsors were hosted on Tuesday, March 7, and past Board members of both boards were hosted on Tuesday, March 21. The Associates Board has voted to establish a Permanent Endowment Fund with a beginning amount of $100,000 from current reserve funds. A document will be in place before the fund is officially established. The Associates have signed a contract with Susan Taylor Block for a new book Scenes of America: Cape Fear. This book contains photos from the Museum’s collections that were used in her three previously published books. The Museum will receive 2/3rd of the royalties and the author 1/3rd. The release date is May 29, 2006. A book signing and reception is planned for Saturday, June 17. In honor of National Volunteer Week, an Ice Cream Sundae Social honoring our volunteers, including both boards, will be held on Monday, May 1. MINUTES CFM Advisory Board Meeting April 19, 2006 CFM Advisory Board Meeting Minutes April 15, 2006 Page 2 Collections Committee Report: John Haley A request from Fort Fisher to extend loan of Whitworth rifle Diorama was proposed by John and approved by the Board. Nominating Committee: Don Fishero John Haley will chair. Chris Abrons and Don Fishero will serve as members. Nominations are needed for Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary. Directors Report: Ruth Haas Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame o Ruth reported on Bill Dooley’s hospitalization. o CFM will be the repository for artifacts. Ruth will write a letter regarding the terms for housing of these artifacts. It will include a recommended fee for our services and benchmarks to review the agreement. The letter will be submitted for review by the County’s Legal Department. Ruth introduced the proposed increase in admission fees, which will help fund the need for additional part-time temporary help at the Front Desk. She has initiated discussions with the Commissioners. Dean Gattone made a motion to to accept the Director’s proposed increase from $5.00 to $6.00 for adults and from $1.00 to $3.00 for children. Bill Terrell seconded the motion. Motion passed. Ruth gave an in-depth power point presentation on the exhibit planning update. Green Space Bond Issue: Don Fishero Don urged all board members to encourage people to get out and vote. With no further business, Don Fishero adjourned the meeting at 5:15 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
