Nancy Pritchett, County Commissioner Absent: Don Patience Dean Gattone Scott Chase Virginia Chiarello Grace Mosley-Byrd Also Present: Ruth Haas, CFM Director Barbara Rowe, CFM Curator Jane O’Brien, CFM Administrative Support Specialist The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 4:00 PM in the Williston Auditorium, with Mr. Don Fishero, Chairman, presiding. Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the July 20, 2005 meeting were reviewed and approved with no corrections. A motion to approve was made by Scott Brooks and seconded by John Haley. Motion passed. Consideration of Absences: Eight members were present. Excused absences were Don Patience, Dean Gattone and Scott Chase. CFM Inc. Associates Report: Rachel Pace The 2006 Gala is scheduled for February 4, 2006 Bruce Cavanaugh is is conducting a fundraiser for area nonprofits with a raffle for a 2006 Lexus. Tickets are $25.00. Cape Fear Museum is one of the 47 groups participating. All CFM Board members received membership applications to renew their memberships if they had expired or were near expiration. Committee Reports: Collections: John Haley The Committee approved the loan of James Walker’s portrait to Randall Library at UNCW. Deaccessions were reviewed by the Board members and motion passed to approve the deaccessions. The loan to Fort Fisher Museum was approved for extension until 2006. CFM Advisory Board Minutes August 17, 2005 Meeting Page 2 Facilities: Ruth Haas The latest design renderings for the Museum Master Plan were presented, reviewed and discussed. Task Force On Governance: Scott Brooks The July 2005 committee meeting was used to brainstorm, specifically to determine the direction the committee wishes to take. The August committee meeting will take place on August 22, 2005. Task Force On Annual Funding Plan: No Report Task Force will meet on August 22, 2005 at 9:00 AM. Museum Update: Ruth Haas Each member received a copy of the Ethics Policy for review and signature. Signed copies were returned to Ruth. In process of applying for NEH Grant. This grant does not require matched funds. Process for filling the Development Coordinator position is moving slowly. Mr. Allen O’Neal, County Manager, is retiring the end of August. A scholarship in his name is being established at Cape Fear Community College for New Hanover County employees and their dependents. Checks should be made to Cape Fear Community College with indication for Allen O’Neal Scholarship Fund. The CFM has Don Payne’s Emmy to display during the week of his induction to the Wilmington Walk of Fame. Flavor of the Past will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2005. Renovation of the Learning Center is coming along nicely. The Museum has received several artifacts from the local film industry donated by Jeff Godwin. Hugh McRae III donated the 1950 James Rouse Marketing Report that led to opening the Hanover Center, and opening day aerial photographs of Hanover Center. The Museum had a ten percent growth rate last year. Joint Marketing Collaborative – press packets were sent to the Myrtle Beach hospitality community to promote day trips to Wilmington. These packets were also distributed to NC Welcome Centers throughout the state. New Business The one hundred year anniversary is coming up for the New Hanover County Library. The fall lecture series is coming together. “Golden Oldies” is the theme this year. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:55 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at 4:00 PM in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
