Commissioner O'Neal also inquired about the $10,000,000 cost of the equipment and Mr. McQuaid said that certain byproducts were generated which had to be removed from exhaust fumes, that ducts carry the byproducts to the pollution abatement facility, the actual particles or particulates are moved through the bag house and then to a landfill and the fumes are scrubbed through a water jet technology. Commissioner O'Shields said he was glad to see the success story involved with Corning and its use of revenue bonds and that he appreciated the expansion and vote of confidence of the company. James Ferger of 4521 Middlesex Road, Wilmington, N. C, said that he was a member of the Sierra Club, which was seeking federal legislation for cleaner air, and that from what he understood the air pollution control regulations were causing the development of industries to produce the needed equipment and that this could have an effect on the economy of the country. -3- After the Board had heard all persons who re- quested to be heard, Commissioner ~Ne~l _ moved that the public hearing be closed. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Barfield and was unanimously adopted.
