ORDER OF BUSINESS:
1.Minutes Review/Approved
2.Reviewed the list of upcoming insurance renewals for the above entities.
3.New Hanover County Airport Authority:
The Airport Authority will renew their insurance policy with NCACC Liability and
Property Pool Fund as quoted.
The Airport Authority’s renewal worker’s compensation policy with NCACC came in
much higher than expected. Risk Manager Allen reported alternate quotes were being
sought.
The Airport may non-renew the Volunteer Accident policy if worker’s compensation
coverage remains with NCACC, as its volunteers are included for coverage.
1
The Airport elected to non-renew their Ocean Marine Pollution Liability coverage, as their
vessel only holds 6-gallons of fuel.
4.New Hanover County Board of Education:
Risk Manager Allen reported she and Zach Wright of Surry Insurance met with the Board
of Education and presented their renewal quotes for Commercial Auto Liability, Garage
Liability and Worker’s Compensation Insurance. The Board of Education accepted quotes
as per expiring coverages and deductibles.
The Board of Education continues to insure their vehicles that are 1999 and newer
and their buses 1992 and newer for physical damage coverage.
The Board of Education’s garage liability will be issued insuring the bus garage
and the auto repair program at New Hanover High School.
Risk Manager Allen continues to work with the Board of Education and Key Risk
to prepare them for self-insuring their worker’s compensation exposures. The
policy will renew as expiring.
5.Southeastern Center for Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services
had no changes in exposures and will renew with the North Carolina Association of County
Commissioners Liability & Property Pool.
6.Risk Management is obtaining quotes for liability and property insurance for the New Hanover Soil
and Water Conservation District.
7.New Hanover County:
Eric Gilbert and Eric Stevens of Moore & Johnson Agency presented the County’s renewal
quotes for property and liability coverages. The property quote from Lexington increased
by $57,000, which in part was due to an increase in the limit of coverage. The liability
quote from Travelers Insurance Company included an overall increase in quoted premium
of 9.6% that was largely due to changes in exposures. A quote for a separate inland marine
policy is still being sought.
New Hanover County canceled the Sherriff’s Department Aviation Insurance policy
because the helicopter was sold.
Risk Manager Allen is working with the Library Director to obtain an appraisal of the
Local History Room collection. Upon receipt Risk Management will review
values/coverages with Lexington and update or move coverage to the artifact policy for
museum items by adding a (library) location to the policy.
The Walker Taylor Agency and StarrTech are working to provide New Hanover County
with a renewal quote for WASTEC, which will be unoccupied when the policy renews.
