Strategic Planning Committee: Tucker Stevens Tucker Stevens led the board members in a roundtable discussion regarding how the museum and the advisory board will define what goals and strategies are needed to measure success within the New Hanover strategic plan framework of superior education. Discussion centered on what will success look like and how it will be defined as we accomplish those goals. How do we know we are succeeding? (Notes) More people visiting on free days Conduct a survey of NHC employees – Who has visited? Why or Why not? Promote free days for NHC employees. Potential for more partnerships. How many visitors can we accommodate? How many visitors do we want to have? Why do people buy memberships? What is the Museum’s value? Museum must be relevant Need to let adults know of our relevance. What are performance variables? How can we measure along the way? What attributes do we control? We are an “avenue” for orienting new residents / visitors – build the narrative of the region. Value – Quality of Life issues – important for new economic development Here is our strategic advantage Goal – sell ourselves to the people. Why return? We should be offering adult tours Who are we serving: Education – Tourist -- Resident Director’s Update: Ruth Haas The current push for available STEM funding continues in the form of grant opportunities. A grant we are pursuing with the Eshelman Foundation would provide $2500 for a grade level field trip for 1st graders next spring. This would match a donation already received from Wells Fargo Foundation. We are looking for recommendations for good meeting dates in November and December. Scheduling is always tough around the holidays. One suggestion is to have only committee meetings in November and a board meeting on December 19, 2012.
