The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jack Mills at 4:00 PM. Approval of Minutes: Alan Trask A motion to accept the December 2012 minutes was made, seconded and approved without opposition. Consideration of Absences: Jack Mills Stuart Borrett, Dan Owen, and Ben Woodruff all indicated their inability to attend this meeting and have been excused. Chairman’s Report: Jack Mills Chairman Mills reported on the attached mid-year indicators for the museum. Museum staff is currently discussing the museum’s strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats. Results from the discussion will be available at a future meeting. Associates Report: Lynore Young Vintage and Vine is fast approaching. This museum fund raising event will be held on Friday, February 22nd from 7-10 pm here at the museum and will feature stations with food and wine pairings. A live and silent auction with DC North serving as the live auctioneer. Sponsorships and event tickets are on sale now. Ms. Young encouraged the members to please consider sponsorship and attendance at the event and to invite their business contacts, family and friends to attend as well. Collections Committee: Nancy Pritchett The Collections Committee recommended approval of the proposed lists of acquisitions sent out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded, and approved without opposition to approve the acquisitions. Strategic Planning Committee: Tucker Stevens Mr. Stevens reported committee is planning to meet before the February 2013 board meeting. Director’s Update: Ruth Haas The 2013-14 NHC budget process continues. There is less focus on the day to day operations of the museum and more focus on collaborative, long range planning. Ms. Haas will present the proposed 2013-2014 to county management on Monday, February 4th at 1:30 pm. Ms. Haas is investigating what steps the county and museum would need to take to purchase the parcel of land adjacent to the museum’s back parking lot that has been made available for sale. Board members indicated their support of the purchase. The request for proposal for the $500,000 parks bond project is looking to accomplish 3 objectives: o Landscape plan for the museum grounds that addresses drainage concerns o Renovate pavilion area to support an exhibit about the maritime/riverine history and ecology o Useable courtyard for classroom, event, and visitor use Old/New Business: Jack Mills Mystery at the Museum will be held on Saturday, January 26th from 1-4 pm. Vintage & Vine, Friday, February 22, 2013 from 7 – 10 pm. A motion was made that the meeting adjourn. With unanimous consent, the meeting ended at 5:15 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 4:00 PM in the Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
