Warren said there have been questions recently about the use of the Public Safety talkgroups on multi-agency incidents, such as water rescues. He reminded the committee members that it’s OK for the fire departments to use their individual TAC channels when they’re working routine, single agency incidents, but to keep in mind that most of the other agencies don’t have the fire TAC channels in their radios. When large incidents require several agencies to respond, 911 will direct them to utilize a Public Safety (PS 1-10) talkgroup. He said the questions he’s receiving also point out that many of our users aren’t familiar with which talkgroups are programmed in their radios or how to access them. All agencies should do periodic refresher training on the use of radios. Donny Williams asked if there were any more Viper IDs available from the State. Warren advised him that the Highway Patrol isn’t issuing any new VIPER IDs at this time. The police department has used theirs for their mobiles but they would like to use some for their portable units. Jerry Brewer said they need to prioritize who has Viper since it is limited. The hospital and GE have gone digital. Jerry Brewer stated he was not sure but he thinks that Corning has as well. Warren will ask Jason Adams if Corning has also gone digital. Warren advised the Committee that New Hanover Regional Medical Center had recently upgraded their radio system and that they were having problems with signal reception in certain areas of the hospital. He said he had talked with Wireless and Motorola and found out that the tower top amplifier was removed during the upgrade and this may be in part causing the poor signal strength. The hospital was funded for a repeater but he is unsure whether they have enough fiber throughout to have effective radio communication inside. Warren advised that Bob Hamlin and Brad Barber with Federal Engineering had completed invoices and payee setup forms and they would be sent to each agency next week. Warren advised that the payee forms would need to be completed, signed and returned to him for processing He said he would have to review, sign and send to Sprint/Nextel for direct payment to each agency. Chairman Blackley brought up the MCT display; reading street names during the day is an issue with the color of the street names being green. He asked if the Change Management group could get the font or color changed so that can be resolved. They will start training with One Solution next week for the staff. Warren let everyone know that B Squad Supervisor Debbie Broyles is retiring August 31, 2012 after 31-1/2 years. They will have a retirement reception next Friday from 2pm until 4pm; everyone is welcome. Warren stated there are still issues with the ACD (automatic call distribution). The recorded greeting has volume issues and Debora and Warren are working with AT&T and Intrado on this. Change Management Chairman Blackley asked Mike Arkinson to update everyone with the Change Management Team. Mike said that about a week and a half ago they updated the OSSI Suite; it went fairly well though there are some problems with the query server. OSSI is looking into the issues and trying to figure out what is different. Between midnight and about 1:30am there is trouble connecting which sometimes resolves itself in about 20 minutes. IT Chairman Blackley asked if Mike had anything new from IT. Mike stated that they are doing upgrades through Verizon. Firehouse Interface has been approved for County Fire to purchase and install and they will be working on that once it is scheduled with OSSI.
