1977-08-15 RM Exhibits ARTICLE VII - CONTINUED *Sec 28 Education Leave A leave of absence without pay during regular working hours may be granted to an employee upon the recommendation of the supervising department head, and prior approval from the County Manager, to permit an employee to take courses of study which will better equip the employee to perform assigned duties A maximum of two (2) courses may be taken at a time The County may reimburse the employee for tuition, fees, and books for the course, provided the employee submits a receipt for course expenses and a notice of successful completion (C average or better) of the course, and provided that there are sufficient funds in the depart- ment's budget Sec 29 Educational Leave Without Pay Employees may be granted leave without pay to further their education in a way that it will benefit the employee and County Educational leave will not exceed twelve (12) months at a time The County may reimburse the employee for training expenses Employee on leave without pay must sign contractual agreement to work for agency involved for twelve (12) months for every nine (9) months of training or repay any expenses incurred by the County Sec 30 Reimbursement for Education Expenses Upon successful completion (C average or better) a job related educational program with prior approval of his department head and County Manager, the _ employee may be reimbursed for tuition, fees and books for the courses, pro- vided the employee submits receipts for course expenses, and provided that such course expenses were not otherwise paid *Sec 28 Amended 8/15/77 -37- Lip ~'I I - C O .TINO::U Sec 11 Sick Leave Sick leave with pay is not a right which an employee may demand but a privilege granted by the Commissioners for the benefit of an employee when sick Sick leave will be granted to an employee absent from work for any of the following reasons sickness, bodily injury, required physical or dental treatment, exposure to a contagious disease when continuing to work might jeopardize the health of others or sickness or injury to a member of one's immediate family Sick leave may be used for death in the employee's immediate family but may not exceed (3) days for any one occurrence, except by special permission from the department head Immediate family will be deemed to include the father, mother, wife, husband, son, daughter, brother, sister grandfather, grandmother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-iaw, daughter-in-law, brother- in-law, sister-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, half-sister, half-brother, step- mother, stepfather, stepson, stepdaughter, stepsister, and stepbrother Notification of the desire to take sick leave should be submitted to the employee's supervisor prior to the leave or not later than two (2) hours after the beginning of a scheduled work day Sec 12 Sick Leave - Manner of Accumulation Each full-time permanent and full-time probationary employee will earn sick leave at the rate of one (1) day for each completed month, or twelve (12) days for each completed year of service Each part-time employee will earn sick leave pro-rated on the number of hours worked by the employee each month The department head with approval from the County Manager, may advance sick leave to an employee who has exhausted sick leave because of a major operation or illness This advanced sick leave may not exceed the amount an employee can earn during a twelve (12) month period ^Sec 11 Amended 8/15/77 -30- ~a~ LARRY J.
