HomeMy WebLinkAboutE&R 2003-05-05 I I I ~ NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING, MAY 5, 2003 BOOK 1 PAGE 328 ASSEMBLY The 2003 New Hanover County Board of Equalization and Review met in Regular Session on Monday, May 5, 2003 at 5:40 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 North Third Street, Wilmington, North Carolina. Members present were: Chairman Ted Davis, Jr.; Vice-Chairman Robert G. Greer; Commissioner Julia Boseman; Commissioner William A. Caster; Commissioner Nancy H. Pritchett; County Manager, Allen O'Neal; County Attorney, Wanda M. Copley; and Clerk to the Board, Lucie F. Harrell. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN AND VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE 2003 BOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REYIEW Tax Administrator Robert Glasgow requested the Board to appoint a Chairman and Vice- Chairman of the 2003 Board of Equalization and Review. Motion: Commissioner Boseman MOVED, SECONDED by Commissioner Pritchett, to appoint Ted Davis, Jr. to serve as Chairman of the Board of Equalization and Review. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Motion: Commissioner Boseman MOVED SECONDED by Commissioner Caster, to appoint Robert G. Greer to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Equalization and Review. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. ENTRY OF TAX APPEALS INTO THE RECORD Tax Administrator Robert Glasgow presented the following list of property owners who submitted written appeals to be heard by the Board of Equalization and Review: The Oleander Company, Inc. John C. Drewery, III and Gail Joseph Pawlik Arthur R. Bullock, Jr. Danny L. Alvis, and Sue G. E. Marc Biddison, III and Elizabeth Leland D. Egland R061 00-004-001-001 R 06308-025-006-000 R05405-018-010-000 R 06607 -010-006-000 R 08510-009-001-000 R05611-002-007-012 R0511O-008-027-000 Tax Administrator Glasgow reported that pursuant to State Statutes no appeals could be received after adjournment of this meeting. Chairman Davis asked if anyone from the audience would like to present an appeal. No one stepped forward to present a tax appeal. MEETING OFTHE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW SCHEDULED ON JUNE 16, 2003 TO HEAR TAX APPEALS Chairman Davis advised that Tax Administrator Glasgow has suggested hearing the tax 9EE ~ NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF EQUALIZATION AND REVIEW MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING, MAY 5, 2003 BOOK 1 PAGE 329 appeals on June 16,2003, and asked if the Board would like to hear the appeals on that date. Consensus: After discussion, it was the consensus of the Board of Equalization and Review to schedule a meeting on June 16, 2003, in the Assembly Room of the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 North Third Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, to hear tax appeals after the Regular Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners. The exact time of the appeals will be determined at a later date. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Davis called for a motion to adjourn. Motion: Commissioner Caster MOVED, SECONDED by Commissioner Pritchett, to adjourn the meeting ofthe Board of Equalization and Review and reconvene to the Regular Session of the Board of County Commissioners.
