After budget sessions last year, I arrived at certain philosophical considera-
tions which caused me to make a decision to resign as a Commissioner in
February, 1975, unless my thinking changed in the interim period
It is February My thoughts have not changed I will resign on the last day
of this month
The county attorney advised me informally shortly after the first of the year
of his opinion that while I am now registered No-Party, my successor should be
nominated by the Republican Party Hopefully, a candidate can be proposed by
that party who can be informally accepted by yourselves for service beginning
in Dlarch This will allow the person to acquire experience before budget time
and prevent any vacancy on the Commission
My resignation at the time of the current furor about the new tax appraisal is
a matter of concern to me Unless matters change, it is my thinking that the
Board will be too burdened with approaching budget sessions to accept the re-
sponsibility of an extended sitting as a Board of Equalization and Review
Should you decide to use a citizen board, I shall be glad to offer it my services
in any way you may deem desirable Also, in the future I offer you my services
on individual projects whenever possible
M~yI say in conclusion that my family has expressed concern to me that I may be
letting down those who supported me for election I have given this aspect
careful consideration It seems to me that the accomplishments of the last two
years may have exceeded those of any two other years in this Board's history
I hope that my friends view my departure from the Board in this light
