PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS:
The Public Health, Safety and Welfare of this community
depends on the services of Engineers in the design and
construction of buildings, highways, bridges, sewers,
machines, electronics, flood control, coastal protection,
marine facilities, power generation, and all types of
industrial facilities and public facilities involving the
environment of mankind, and especially our energy resources;
and
WHEREAS: "Engineering - Our Greatest Energy Resource" is the theme
for the Engineering profession in National Engineers Week
of 1974, and
WHEREAS: It is the desire of this office and community to recognize
the importance of this challenge to the Engineering
Profession,
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED: That I, Douglas Powell, Chairman
do proclaim February 17-23, 1974 as NATIONAL ENGINEERS
WEEK in New Hanover County, North Carolina
and call upon Citizens to acquaint themselves
. with the role of Engineers in our Society and to
recognize this important role in our environmental
facilities required to safeguard the health,

WI-~~',REAS, the attached petition has been filed with the Board of
County Commissioners of the Count~T of NEW HANOVER requestint; that
the above descri'~ed road, t:ze location of t,~hich has been indicated in
red on the attached map, be added to tha Secondary Road system; and
Tr~~iGREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is of the opinion that
the above described road should be added to the Secondary Road System,
if the road meets minimum standards and criteria established by the
State Highway Commission for the addition of roads to the System.
NOZ~T, TI~REFO~E~Wbe it resolved by the Board of County Commissia~
of the Counter of HANOVER that the State Iiighvray Commission
is hereby requested to review the above described road, and to take
over the road for maintenance if it meets established standards and
criteria.
CERTIFICATE
The foregoing resolution was duly adopted bar the Board of Commis-
sioners of the County of NEW HANOVER at a meeting on the 18th

Commission.

REQUEST FOR ADDITION
TO
STATE MAINTAINED SECONDARY ROAD SYSTEM
We the undersigned, being all of the property owners on

to a t e a ove described road to the Secondary Road System for mainte-
nance.

~ We further advise that the road requested to be added is miles
in length and at the present time there are occupied homes located
on the road and having entrances into the roac~.~
Finally, we agree to dedicate to the State Highway Commission a
right-of-way sixty (60) feet in width extending the entire length of the
road that is requested along with the necessary areas for cut and fill
slopes and drainage. Also we agree to dedicate additional right of way
in the public road intersections for sight distance and design purposes
and to execute the right of way agreement forms that will be submitted
to us by forces of the Highway Commission in order that the Highway Com-
mission fulfill the requirements of Chapter 1244, 1959 Session of the
General Assembly of North Carolina.
