Public Comment: None Minutes were approved. Correspondence: David Paynter received a note from Mike McIntyre regarding a library article. Harry Tuchmayer received a thank you note from a reference question. Director’s Report: David Paynter reported that the interview process continues for the open positions. Staff is representing the library at various event; Margaret Miles, children’s librarian, attended the annual meeting of collaborative summer library program in Portland, OR and TC Tatum, Systems Analyst attended the Computers in Libraries workshop in Arlington, VA. David Paynter is scheduled to represent North Carolina for Libr?ary Day later this month. We are waiting for the State to approve the latest inspection of the parking lot at the Northeast Regional Library. A coffee kiosk is also being installed at this branch. The Earth Day program was successful and will be aired on NHC-TV. The Main library circulation statistics increased this month. The weeding and shifting materials’ projects are helping to make the shelves more attractive and the circulation staff is setting up attractive displays. The VITA income tax assistance program served over 500 individuals; about a 60% increase from last year. Beverly Tetterton has received some collections for the North Carolina room. David shared a 19th’s century piece from the latest collection donated to the library. Friends’ Report: John Danylyk reported on the FOL funded projects that are planned. They approved $10,000 for the Library Book Endowment Fund; $10,000 library equipment of bookshelves and PC tables; and $5,000 on library programs. They also approved a match of $1,000 for an an author fund organized by retiring librarian, Rebecca Taylor. There have been several changes in the FOL board appointments. The book sale April 21 – 26 at the Northeast Regional Library. Old Business: Budget: The budget is still in the planning process. Danny McComas is sponsoring a bill to limit taxes on owners of second properties. Library Day: Elizabeth Stanfield-Maddox reported on this event. Several members of the board attended. This committee visited Representatives McComas, Justice and Wright, and Senator Boseman. Jacqueline O’Grady reported on the information that was presented to the legislators. David Paynter reported that the meeting was successful and felt positive about possibilities for the next FY. Frank Oddo shared an article regarding the Chambers Trust. New Business: UNCW Lease: Negotiations have been conducted for an additional three-year lease agreement for the UNCW Development Center at the Northeast Regional Library. UNCW has an automatic right to renew this lease after seven years. Changes have been made to allow them to enter the building at 7 AM to set up the Pine and Oak rooms. Property Management will open the building early for this. Parking has been an issue; there are 155 spaces available. Harry Tuchmayer reported on a new option that will be offered to the regular patrons. Popular new materials that are ordered months ahead are heavily reserved by 30-60 patrons. These materials will be placed on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. This ensures that popular materials will be available on the shelf for one week. Paul Walker volunteered to take a new picture of the board for the webpage. We will schedule a picture session for September. Meeting adjourned at 3:47 PM.
