The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May
21, 2014 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. The meeting was called to order
by Chairman Allen Trask at 4:00 PM.
Approval of Minutes: Allen Trask
A motion to accept the April 2014 minutes was made, seconded and approved without
opposition.
Consideration of Absences: Allen Trask
Gwen Brown, Nancy Ballard Cox, Beth Dawson, Sandra Sheridan and Tucker Stevens
have indicated their inability to attend this meeting and have been excused.
Chairman’s Report: Allen Trask
Mr. Trask reported that search committee for a new museum director did not yield any
viable candidates. The position will be re-advertised to a more targeted audience. Ms.
Haas has agreed to return to the museum beginning July 1, 2014 on a contract basis
until a new director is hired.
Mr. Trask reported that the following individuals have applied to serve on the 2014-2015
Museum Advisory Board.

3) Emily Goodman
4) David Ball
The commissioners will make appointments at their June meeting:

Associates Report: Mike Ryan
Mr. Ryan reported the associate investment accounts continue to do very well and the
finance committee was set to propose the 2014-2015 budget.
Mr. Ryan reported that 3 new members will be joining the associate’s board for 2014-
2015. They are:
1) Brad Erbes
2) Lynne Gattone
3) Jack Mills
Mr. Ryan reported that the associates are still seeking more nominees for board
membership and to please contact him or Ms. Anzalotti for more information.
Collections Committee: Nancy Pritchett
The Collections Committee recommended approval of the proposed list of acquisitions
sent out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded, and approved without
opposition to approve the acquisitions.

out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded, and approved without opposition
to approve the deaccessions.
The Collections Committee recommended a change in disposition of the outdoor water
craft. Ms. Pritchett and Ms. Rowe led a discussion on deaccessioning and reclassifying
some of the boats in the museum collection to allow them to be used by the museum
staff. After discussion the recommendation was tabled for a future meeting.
Museum Update: Ruth Haas
Ms. Hass reported that parks bond project phase two contract will be started before the
end of the week. A two day design charette is planned for early June that will include
meetings with the project contractors, museum staff, county staff, homeowners adjacent
to museum property and the general public.
Ms. Haas updated the board on the 2014-2015 museum budget process. The
commissioners will approve the county budget at their June meeting.
Ms. Haas reported that the Grassroots Science Museum’s Collaborative funding that the
museum receives is in danger of losing additional funds for 2014-2015 and she is
awaiting more details from the state.

A motion was made that the meeting adjourn. With unanimous consent, the meeting ended at
4:50 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 16th, 2014 at 4:00 pm in the
Williston Auditorium, Cape Fear Museum.
