HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-16-141 Board Members Present: Allen Trask Mike Ryan Dan Owen Beth Dawson Bill Terrell Tucker Stevens Nancy Pritchett Gwen Brown Absent: Stuart Borrett, Nancy Ballard Cox, Jack Mills & Sandra Sheridan Staff Present: Ruth Haas, Director Barbara Rowe, Curator Cindy Anzalotti, Donor Relations Adrienne Garwood, Exhibits Manager Amy Thornton The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Allen Trask at 4:00 PM. Approval of Minutes: Allen Trask  A motion to accept the March 19, 2014 minutes was made by Mr. Stevens, seconded by Ms. Brown, and approved without opposition. Consideration of Absences: Allen Trask  Stuart Borrett, Nancy Ballard Cox, Jack Mills, and Sandra Sheridan have indicated their inability to attend this meeting and have been excused. Chairman’s Report: Allen Trask  Mr. Trask updated the board on where the County currently is in the process of hiring a new Museum director.  Mr. Trask reminded board members that the County Commissioners are currently accepting applications for appointments to the Museum Advisory Board. There will be two to four board positions to fill and Mr. Trask encouraged board members to encourage colleagues and other interested people to apply. Applications are available at www.nhcgov.com and Ms. Haas would be happy to answer any questions people might have. Applications should be submitted by the end of May. Appointments will be made in June. Commissioner Dawson indicated that references from Advisory Board members were welcome.  Third-quarter Achievement Indicators were reviewed. No recommendations or actions were proposed.  Members were provided with a staff report on the current status of the Outdoor Learning Environment. Associates Report: Mike Ryan  Mr. Ryan indicated that Cape Fear Museum Associates, Inc. has lost one member – Antonio Fernandez, a GE-Hitachi executive, has been moved to Connecticut. While they have 12 members, the bylaws require them to have 12 to 24 members. They would like to gain a few additional members, particularly those representing corporate interests. Owen Nancy Pritchett Tucker Stevens Bill Terrell Beth Dawson, NHC Commissioner Ex-officio: Mike Ryan CFMA, Inc. 2  At the last Associate’s board meeting, a new investment spending policy was approved that will pull 3.5% to 5% from investment accounts to add approximately $20,000 annually to the Associate’s budget. Additionally, unrestricted funds may be used in the event of an emergency or to take advantage of an opportunity that will advance the mission of the Museum. Collections Committee: Nancy Pritchett  The Collections Committee recommended approval to continuing the loan of a diorama to Fort Fisher. The diorama has been on loan for ten years and is annually renewed. The recommendation was approved without opposition.  At the next Collections Committee meeting, members will be discussing proposed treatment and disposition of the watercraft displayed in the outdoor area in anticipation of bringing recommendations back to the Board. Director’s Update: Ruth Haas, Amy Thornton, Barbara Rowe, Adrienne Garwood, Cindy Anzalotti  Museum staff presented a Power Point reviewing where the Museum currently stands and plans for the FY15 budget year. Old/New Business: Allen Trask Hearing none, the meeting adjourned at 5:15 PM. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 4:00 pm in Cape Fear Museum’s Learning Center.
