The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on
Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Allen Trask at 4:00 pm.
Approval of Minutes: Allen Trask
A motion to accept the July 2014 minutes was made, seconded and approved
without opposition.
Consideration of Absences: Allen Trask
Stuart Borrett, Will Oden, and Mike Ryan have indicated their inability to
attend this meeting and have been excused.
Chairman’s Report: Allen Trask
Mr. Trask reported that call back interviews were taking place tomorrow for
the museum director position.
Mr. Trask reported that he presented the museum’s annual update to the NHC
Commissioner’s on Monday, August 11th. His presentations lasted about 7
minutes and included achievements from the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
Mr. Trask reviewed with the board the various committees available to board
members. A recommendation was made to add a museum director
orientation committee to assist the new director when one is hired. The
following is a list of committee’s and members assigned.

Wednesday, August 20, 2014
A preview demonstration of the Zeta portable planetarium was presented to the
members of the board by the museum education unit.
Associates Report: Mike Hudson
Mr. Hudson reported that the Associates board had two upcoming events. On
Wednesday, September 17th at 5:30 pm the donor reception and planetarium
preview will take place at the museum. All of the sponsors and donors from
the Reach for the Stars event last March have been invited to attend this
thank you party and unveiling.
Mr. Hudson reported that the upcoming adult program “Dark the Night” on
Thursday, September 25th will feature a program in the new planetarium
coupled with a tour of the collection in the basement with Curator Barbara
Rowe.
Collections Committee Report: Nancy Pritchett
The Collections Committee recommends approval of the proposed list of
acquisitions sent out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded and
approved without opposition to approve the recommendation to the
commissioners.

commissioners.
The Collections Committee recommends the proposal included in the board
packet for disposition of the outdoor water craft. A motion was made,
seconded and approved to accept the proposal as recommended.
Museum Update: Ruth Haas
Ms. Haas reported that the contract for the donation of the land to the
museum is in the process of being drafted by the legal department of the
county and the process of acquiring the donated land was moving forward.
Ms. Haas reported that her last day of work as interim director will be on
Thursday, August 28th.
Old Business/New Business: Allen Trask
A View from Space exhibit will close on September 7th.

A motion was made that the meeting adjourn. With unanimous consent, the meeting
ended at 5:10 pm. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 17,
2014 at 4:00 pm in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum.
