Tara Duckworth 4.Park Operations update Andy Johnson 5.Adjourn NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 1 REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 3, 2016 ASSEMBLY The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 8:00am in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC. Present: Frank Amoroso, Andy Mills, Rebecca Powell, Linda Reece, Bruce Shell, Shawn Spencer and Nikki Zeldin. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Andy Johnson and Tanya Gurganious. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Bruce Shell who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the January board meeting. MOTION:MOVED; SECONDED By Frank Amoroso, by Andy Mills, that the minutes of the January meeting MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY be approved. Upon vote, the . 1. Directors Report. Tara showed a video of the proposed playground for Hugh MacRae Park. The playground will include many state of the art features providing an inclusive playground for all. The playground will include a rubberized surface providing ADA accessibility. An accessible splash pad will also be constructed along with the playground. The existing playground will be moved to Castle Hayne Park when funding is available for reconstruction. Construction at the Northern Regional Park (Castle Hayne Park) is moving along. Paving will be completed once the area dries out a bit more. Additionally, the Ogden skate park fundraising th campaign is moving along well. Will go to Eaton Elementary this morning as the 5 gradeennies for the Park fundraiser. They collected $1,238 which they are donating to the skate park. Several contractors have stepped up to the plate to provide in-kind donations for the skate park as well. Expect to find out at the end of February if we have been approved for the Tony Hawk Grant. Construction is expected to start in early April. The statistically valid survey the Parks Department is conducting along with the City of Wilmington for the th master plan will be mailed out February 4. An additional public meeting will take place in March to garner more input from the public. th 2. Park Operations Update. Andy Johnson shared that on April 5 over 300 volunteers from the realtors th association will be doing beautification projects in several parks. February 15 is the kickoff for the spring th athletic season. The Food Truck Rodeo will be held at Ogden Park on Sunday, April 17. There will be a basketball court installed at Hugh MacRae Park. 3. Brainstorming Session. Bruce Shell shared that in an effort to aid staff in bringing topics that are relevant to the board, he would like suggestions as to what the board can focus on. He asked that the board send suggestions which will be compiled and sent out prior to next board meeting.
