15 07 15 MAB Minutes Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board Meeting Minutes Wednesday, July 15, 2015 Board Members Present: 2015-16 Board Stuart Borrett Bill Terrell Mike Hudson Tucker Stevens David Ball Gwen Brown Melissa Collins Stuart Borrett Gwen Brown Dan Owen Tim Potter Melissa Collins David Ball Will Oden, III Nancy Pritchett Dan Owen Tim Potter Nancy Pritchett Absent: Will Oden, Allen Trask, Rob Zapple Bill Terrell Allen Trask, III Staff Present: Sheryl Mays, Museum Director Barbara Rowe, Curator Rob Zapple NHC Commissioner The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on Ex-officio: Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum. Mike Hudson The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Stuart Borrett at 4:00 pm. CFMA, Inc. Approval of Minutes: Stuart Borrett  A motion to accept the May 20, 2015 minutes was made, seconded and approved without opposition. Consideration of Absences: Stuart Borrett  Will Oden, Allen Trask and Rob Zapple indicated their inability to attend this meeting and have been excused. Election of New Officers: Nancy Pritchett  Ms. Pritchett stated that the nominating committee presents and recommends approval of the following slate of officers for 2015-2016: Stuart Borrett – Chairman o Gwendolyn Brown – Vice Chairman o Daniel Owen – Secretary o A motion to accept the nominating committee’s slate of officers was made, seconded and approved without opposition. Advisory Chairman’s Report: Stuart Borrett  Mr. Borrett presented the following committee’s for approval for 2015-2016: Strategic Planning o Collections Committee o Community Engagement Committee o Mr. Borrett reviewed the responsibilities of each committee and what the expectations would be for the year. A motion was made, seconded and approved to adopt a resolution to add the Community Engagement Committee for 2015-2016.  Mr. Borrett reviewed the goals for 2015-2016 for the Advisory Board. The goals are: Finish the Outdoor Learning Environment project o Strategic planning process o Community Engagement Committee o CFM Associates Report: Mike Hudson  Mr. Hudson reported that the Cape Fear Museum Associates Inc has elected new officers for 2015-2016. Those officers are: Mike Hudson, President o Lori Feezor, Vice President o Lynore Young, Secretary o Sean Frelke, Treasurer o  Mr. Hudson reported that a sneak preview party for the Outdoor Learning th Environment will be held on Thursday, September 24 from 5-7:30 pm. Tickets are $30 per person and this event is a general fundraiser for the Museum.  Mr. Hudson reported a mini store has been set up near the admissions desk and the visitor’s services staff is selling items for the store. Collections Committee Report: Nancy Pritchett  The Collections Committee recommends approval of the proposed list of accessions sent out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded and approved without opposition to send the recommendation to the commissioners. Museum Update: Sheryl Mays  Ms. Mays reported that the summer Pop Up programming has served 650 visitors to date. Summer shorts programming is on target to meet its goals and a partnership with the YWCA will serve another 200 children. Family Science Saturday had 101 attendees at the July Mindstorms Robot program.  Ms. Mays reported that beginning in August 2015 the Museum will begin sending an electronic news and upcoming events newsletter to members and other interested parties.  Ms. Mays reported that the sculpture for the Outdoor Learning Environment has been commissioned and is being designed and manufactured. With unanimous consent, the meeting ended at 4:40 pm. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 19th 2015 at 4:00 pm in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum.
