The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on

Wednesday, August 19, 2015 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum.

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Stuart Borrett at 4:00 pm.
Approval of Minutes: Stuart Borrett
A motion to accept the July 15, 2015 minutes was made, seconded and
approved without opposition.
Consideration of Absences: Stuart Borrett
Melissa Collins and Rob Zapple indicated their inability to attend this
meeting and have been excused.
Advisory Chairman’s Report: Stuart Borrett
Dr. Borrett reported that his presentation to the NHC Commissioners on

August 17 was very well received.
Dr. Borrett reviewed the committee assignments for 2015-2016 and described
the goals and tasks for each committee.
CFM Associates Report: Mike Hudson
Mr. Hudson reported that the Cape Fear Museum Associates Inc. have
elected a new board member, Patrick Boykin.
Mr. Hudson reported that a sneak preview party, Nature in the City, for the

new Cape Fear Museum Park will be held on Thursday, September 24 from
5-7:30 pm. Tickets are $30 per person and this event is a general fundraiser
for the Museum. Mr. Hudson encouraged all Advisory Board members to
attend and challenged them to invite at least one other person to the event.
Mr. Hudson reported that a free family event will be held on Saturday,

September 26 from 1 – 4 pm in the new Cape Fear Museum Park.
Admission to the museum will be free that day as well.
Collections Committee Report: Nancy Pritchett
The Collections Committee recommends approval of the proposed list of
accessions sent out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded and
approved without opposition to send the recommendation to the
commissioners.
The Advisory Board members divided up into their respective committees and
held a planning meeting.
Barbara Rowe, Museum Curator,
gave a brief presentation on Cape Fear Stories.
Museum Update: Sheryl Mays
Ms. Mays reported that museum visitation for fiscal year 2014-2015 was up
7% overall. 3,100 residents were served on free Sundays in 2014-2015 up
15% from the previous year.
Ms. Mays reported several new programs and changes occurred in 2014-
2015. These include:
Summer Pop Up programs

Cape Museum Associates funded an intern for museum programs

The ceiling in the Williston Auditorium was raised to accommodate
o
the new Star Lab.
Cape Fear Museum Associates were awarded a $1900 grant from the
o
North Carolina Community Foundation for interactives to be used in
the new Cape Fear Museum Park.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting. With unanimous consent, the meeting
ended at 5:00 pm. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16th
2015 at 4:00 pm in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum.
