The Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board held its regular monthly meeting on
Ex-officio:
Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear

Museum. The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Stuart Borrett at 4:00
CFMA, Inc.

Approval of Minutes: Stuart Borrett
A motion to accept the August 19, 2015 minutes was made, seconded and
approved without opposition.
A motion to accept the September 16, 2015 minutes was made, seconded and
approved without opposition.
Consideration of Absences: Stuart Borrett
Gwen Brown, Allen Trask and Rob Zapple indicated their inability to attend
this meeting and have been excused.
Advisory Chairman’s Report: Stuart Borrett
Dr. Borrett reviewed the upcoming event dates at the museum.
CFM Associates Report: Mike Hudson
Mr. Hudson reported that the Cape Fear Museum Associates Inc. Nature in
the City event was a major success.
Mr. Hudson suggested the Associates were looking at future park events.
Collections Committee Report: Nancy Pritchett
The Collections Committee recommends approval of the proposed list of
accessions sent out in the board packet. A motion was made, seconded and
approved without opposition to send the recommendation to the
commissioners.
Community Engagement Committee Report: Stuart Borrett
Dr. Borrett reported that the Committee is currently working on a list of
partners with the Museum.
Discussions included the following for Community Engagement
Partnering with UNCW and being a presence on campus

Advertising Williston for a meeting space
o
Strategic Planning Committee Report: Bill Terrell
Mr. Terrell reviewed the strategic planning selection process and noted that a
contract is now being reviewed the consulting company. He highlighted the
schedule for the planning process:
October 22: Award Contract
o
November 5: Contract Signed(tentative)
o
November 2015 – June 2016: Based on consultant’s suggested
o
timeline.
July 2016 – Strategic Plan Completed
o
Exhibit: For All the World to See Highlights: Adrienne Garwood
Ms. Garwood presented material for the upcoming exhibit, For All the World
to See.
The exhibit was co-organized by The Center for Art, Design, and
o
Visual Culture and the National Museum of African-American
History and Culture, Smithsonian Institution. The exhibit has been
made possible through NEH on the Road, a special initiative of the
National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
It was suggested developing hashtag for all of the photos taken at the
museum for the exhibit.
Museum Update: Sheryl Mays
Ms. Mays reported that the opening of For All The World To See will be on
November 8, 2015.
Ms. Mays reported that the Spooktacular had approximately 300 visitors.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting. With unanimous consent, the meeting

ended at 5:00pm. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 18
2015 at 4:00 pm in the Williston Auditorium at the Cape Fear Museum.
