Re: S.T. Wooten Sand Pit Expansion
S.T. Wooten Corporation is interested in expansion of their existing sand mining facility in the
vicinity of Sutton Lake, within the proximity of your property. This proposal requires approval of
a Special Use Permit by New Hanover County.
An SUP approval allows particular uses to be established only in accordance with specific
standards and conditions pertaining to the individual development project. Essentially, this
means that only that use, structures and layout on an approved proposal can be developed.
An exhibit of the project area and preliminary permitting plans are enclosed for information
purposes. A narrative, environmental reports and other supporting documentation have been
submitted to the County, and all file information is available for public review.
The petition was presented to the County Planning Board at hearing on August 4th, and a variety
of questions were raised by concerned public speakers. Consequently, the applicant will hold a
meeting for all property owners within 500 feet of the tract boundary, and any and all other
interested parties. This will provide neighbors and others with an opportunity for explanation of
the proposal and for questions to be answered concerning project improvements, benefits and
impacts prior to the Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 6th.
You will be receiving a notice of that meeting directly from the County.
An information meeting will be held on Monday, August 29th, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., in the Longleaf
Room of the New Hanover County Executive Center, 1241 Military Cutoff Road (behind the
Landfall Library). If you cannot attend, you are also welcome to contact me at telephone # 910-
620-2374, or email cwolf@lobodemar.biz with comments and/or questions.
We appreciate your interest in the project and look forward to being a good neighbor and an
asset to the community.
