Minutes 06 15 2017 LABMinutes 06 15 2017 LAB Page 1 Library Advisory Board June 15, 2017 Assembly: The Library Advisory Board met in Regular Session on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Main Library in Wilmington, NC. Hayes, Hathia (FOL) - Honchell, Barbara (FOL) - Zimmer, Ronna (LF) PRESENT Tuchmayer, Harry PRESENT Owens, Paige PRESENT Bailey, Janet (FOL) PRESENT The meeting was called to order by Chair, Amy Damutz at 2:00 p.m. Public Comment and Agenda Review Public Comment No members of the public were present. Agenda Chair, Amy Damutz asked if any members of the board would like to remove or add any item(s) from the Agenda. With no changes, the Agenda was approved. Approval of Minutes of Previous Meeting The minutes from the last board meeting on 05/18/17 were sent to the board prior to the meeting for review. Motion: Ronna Zimmer MOVED, SECONDED by Paul Smith, to recommend approval of the 5/18/17 minutes. Upon vote, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Correspondence Harry Tuchmayer reported that the library had received a Facebook post request regarding the age of card holders. The issue was addressed with the patron. (Card holders must be 18 years old. Younger card holders must have permission from a parent/guardian before they can be issued a card. Minutes 06 15 2017 LAB Page 2 Friends of the Library Report Janet Bailey reported the following:  Honored past member Anna Marie Fleming, who passed away on 10/23/16, by posting her photo on the FOL donation boxes at all locations.  Awarded the NHCPL $50,000 for Pine Valley and $5,000 for Summer Reading.  $3,500 in FOL LEAD Awards will be presented to 5 NHCPL staff members.  Two new committees have been created: Outreach and Membership Task Force. Library Foundation Report No report at this time. Director’s Report Harry Tuchmayer submitted the Director’s Report prior to the meeting. In addition, he discussed the following:  Distributed proof of the next Story Walk book (I’ve Got the Rhythm)  Distributed planting plans for Pine Valley. These will be sent to the City for approval. Committee Reports None at this time. New Business Spring Fill Rate & Customer Service Survey Results Jimi Rider, Supervising Librarian, presented the results of the April survey to the board. All questions and responses were reviewed and discussed. Results were overwhelmingly positive. FY 16/17 Library Accomplishments and KPI Discussion At the end of every fiscal year, all departments are asked to submit a brief report showing their accomplishments. Mr. Tuchmayer distributed a copy of last year’s report and asked the board if they had any accomplishments that they felt should be listed for this year. Suggested postings were as follows:  Pine Valley: Engaged community for input. Schematic Design  Story Park: Extremely successful and turned out park use  Electronic Resources: Kids Digital, EBook Integration  Outreach Services: Classroom support, Pop Up Libraries, Math & Science Kits, Free Little Libraries  Policy Development: County’s first Fundraising Policy, developing policies to meet the County’s needs.  Tech Services: Process time reduced Mr. Tuchmayer also asked the board to review last year’s Measures. Please email him regarding any changes or additions you’d like to see for this fiscal year. Minutes 06 15 2017 LAB Page 3 Old Business Volunteer Policy Approval At the last meeting, the board was asked to review the current policy and the proposed changes. Motion: Brad Walker MOVED, SECONDED by Harriet Smith, to recommend approval of the Volunteer Policy. Upon vote, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Responses from NC Kids Digital Library Email Blast  Brad Walker had the information sent out to all schools in an email blast.  Paige Owens reported that from Feb to May 781 titles have been downloaded. The June report has not been released yet.  The Library has highlighted this service on their website.  Amy Damutz has reached out to 29 different PTO and Parent sites to make the aware of the service.  Brad Walker offered to make a presentation to the NHC School Board. Pine Valley Library Property Tour w/ Vines Harry Tuchmayer stated that the County’s Project Manager, Kevin Caison is very familiar with the property and has offered to take the board on a tour of it. The tour is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20th. Those interested will meet at the site at 9:00am.
