Programming Sub-Committee Members Present: Jeffrey Hovis, Kristen McKeithan, and Lori Wainright
Absent: Jen Johnson
Staff Present: Tufanna L. Bradley-Thomas
Citizens: None
I. Call to Order
Ms. Wainright called the meeting to order at 5:16 p.m. A quorum was established.
II. Approve Agenda
MOTION: Mr. Hovis MOVED, SECONDED by Ms. McKeithan, to approve the agenda as
presented. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNAMIMOUSLY.
III. Old Business
NHCS Equity Committee – Ms. Bradley-Thomas informed the sub-committee that she
and Evelyn Bryant met with Lisa Estep regarding the NHC Board of Education allowing a
CRAC member to serve on their Equity Committee. Ms. Estep agreed that it would be
beneficial for a member of the CRAC to serve on the NHCS Equity Committee, but the
committee is still in policy development stage and we would be contacted when they
are ready.
Resource Contact List – Committee members need to review the list and make
suggestions to Ms. Bradley-Thomas of resource groups to be added.
Implicit Bias Training – Ms. Bradley-Thomas informed the sub-committee that there may
be opportunities for training soon. She also informed the sub-committee that the
county does not require the training but it is being offered and to her knowledge, no
official recommendation has been made to the City or County on implicit bias.
Specific Groups/Organizations and Events – everyone will continue working on specific
groups and organizations to include on the Group Information Form.
Group Information Form – the form has been completed, now sub-committee members
must continue to make contact with groups and add them to the form.
PURPOSE: The committee was established by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners and Wilmington City Council for
the purpose of addressing community issues involving prejudice or discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, creed or
religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition; informing the Appointing Authorities and other
organizations of their findings; and making recommendations, in an advisory capacity, to the Appointing Authorities and other
organizations, as necessary.

VII. Action Items & Next Steps
Several action items were discussed:
Follow up with Evelyn Bryant on the YWCA and other women-specific groups (Mr. Hovis)
Follow specific groups affected or impacted by prejudice or discrimination on social
media (ALL)
Continue to update resource contact list (ALL in Google Drive)
Research and document organizations/events regarding national origin and race (Ms.
Wainright)
Research and document organizations/events regarding the Hispanic and LGBT
communities (Ms. McKeithan)
Research and document organizations/events regarding disability (Ms. Johnson)
Research and document organizations/events regarding women (Mr. Hovis)
Update Group Information form as CRAC members provide information (Ms. Bradley-
Thomas)
