I. Call to Order
Ms. York called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m. A quorum was not established.
II. Approve Agenda
Agenda not approved due to the lack of a quorum.
III. Old Business
Communications Strategy
Because our request to have a social media presence is new to the county, Interim Chief
Communications Officer, Jessica Leoper is looking into whether we will be able to set up a CRAC group
on the county page or if the county staff to the CRAC will have to set up the group from her page.
The website is under construction and very specific instructions were given to the Communications staff.
The sub-committee reviewed the mark up that was provided to the Communications staff. The website
is projected to be complete before the end of the month of May.
Public Education
The first Meet and Greet has been scheduled and will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the
Creekwood Community Center at 5:00 pm. The topic is WAVE transportation for Creekwood residents,
specifically the distance that a bus stop is available to residents.
It is suggested that the Meet and Greet at Creekwood consist of:
PURPOSE: The committee was established by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners and Wilmington City Council for
the purpose of addressing community issues involving prejudice or discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, creed or
religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition; informing the Appointing Authorities and other
organizations of their findings; and making recommendations, in an advisory capacity, to the Appointing Authorities and other
organizations, as necessary.

There will be a request to NHC Communications to develop a press release, post on social media, etc.

the kick off of the Resource/Outreach Site at the library on June 10 and the Meet and Greet at

Creekwood on June 12. A flyer will be created for the Resource/Outreach Site and the Meet and Greet
at Creekwood.
For the Resource/Outreach Site at the library, a county laptop will be used. For anything needing
printing, it will be saved on a flash drive and mailed to the customer. The exact location in the library
will be determined soon. There was discussion regarding a pop up banner to be used at the
Resource/Outreach Sites and Meet and Greets. Also, resources such as applications, brochures and
flyers will be available.
There was discussion regarding requesting that CRAC members share information via groups,
organizations, churches and groups that they are involved with and include groups and listserves such as
but not limited to: NHCPTA, Linda Upperman Smith, YWCA, GLOW, BRC, NAACP, and the NH Democrats.
IV. New Business
There was no new business.
VII. Action Items & Next Steps
Several action items were discussed:
Follow up with Kristen McKeithan regarding a representative attending the Meet &
Greet on behalf of WAVE Transit (Dr. York)
Follow up Ms. Warren who was following up with private transportation entities
regarding a representative attending the Meet & Greet in Creekwood on behalf of their
company (Ms. Thomas)
Follow up with Ms. Mullens to confirm the date and time for Meet & Greet at
Creekwood (Dr. York)
Determine whether refreshments (water, possible canned sodas, sandwich tray and
chips) can be provided at the Meet & Greet in Creekwood (Ms. Thomas)

Send a request out to the CRAC for a member to volunteer in Dr. York’s place on June

17 at the Resource/Outreach Site at the downtown library (Ms. Thomas)
Remind CRAC members to complete the resource contact form and return (Ms. Thomas)
Ask CRAC members to share information regarding the Resource/Outreach site and the
Meet & Greet at Creekwood with their community groups, civic organizations, churches
and social media (Ms. Thomas)
Follow up with library staff regarding location of the Resource/Outreach Site in the
downtown branch as well as signage in the lobby so that patrons know where to go (Ms.
Thomas)
Make a flyer for the Resource/Outreach Site and Meet and Greet at Creekwood (Ms.
Thomas)
Does the Public Education sub-committee need to meet in June? (Dr. York & Ms.
Warren)
