Charles Davis, Jeff Hovis, Kathy King, Kristen McKeithan, Elise Rocks, Lori Wainright, Dr. Anne York Absent: Chair Evelyn Bryant, Jen Johnson, Florence Warren Staff Present: Tufanna Bradley-Thomas, NHC; Dahria Kianpour, NHC; Suzanne Rogers, City of Wilmington I.Call to Order Vice-Chair Wexler called the meeting to order. Quorum established. Members and public introduced themselves. II. Approve Agenda MOTION: Reverend Davis MOVED, SECONDED by Mr. Hovis, to approve the agenda as presented. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. III. Approve Minutes MOTION: Mr. Hovis MOVED, SECONDED by Ms. King, to approve the minutes of March 26, 2019. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. IV. Public Comments: None V.Sub-Committee Reports: Vice-Chair Wexler reported for the Crisis Prevention/Preparedness Sub-Committee as follows: The subcommittee has not met yet due to schedule conflicts. Members will coordinate calendars to confirm meeting date and time. Ms. Wainright stated she was willing to join the sub-committee. Ms. Wainright reported for the Programming Sub-Committee as follows: The New Hanover County School District will be establishing an Equity Committee. Ms. Bradley-Thomas and Chair Bryant met with Lisa Estep and discussed appointing a member of the CRAC to the new committee. The committee is still in the policy stage. The sub-committee has been working on a resource list, which is located on Google Docs. Members can provide contact info to Ms. Bradley-Thomas to add to the list. Reverend Davis provided the contact number for NAACP contact person. Sub-committee members are working on specific groups and organizations to create a calendar of events. Page 2 Dr. York reported for the Public Education Sub-Committee as follows: The first meet and greet has been tentatively scheduled at the Creekwood Community Center on Tuesday, June 11 th at 5pm and is open for all CRAC members to attend. There was a brief discussion regarding the transportation issue in that area. Representatives of the Wilmington Housing Authority and WAVE will be invited to attend the meet and greet. Discussion was also held regarding the ridership study WAVE had completed several years ago. Dr. York will verify date and time and share the info with members. The sub-committee worked with Ms. Bradley-Thomas to create a new brochure and complaint process for CRAC. Several suggestions were made for changes to the brochure. Dr. York asked for direction from the members to vote on the brochure and complaint process. MOTION: Dr. York MOVED, SECONDED by Ms. Rocks, to approve the complaint process and brochure with suggested changes as discussed. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Dr. York reported that a date and time was confirmed for the weekly CRAC information station. It will be on Mondays from 9am to 10am at the Downtown Library in the lobby. A laptop with a printer will be available for use. The first weekly information station will be scheduled as soon as the brochure materials are ready. Ms. Bradley-Thomas stated that she requested brochures in English and Spanish from the housing conference. A brief discussion was held regarding leaving CRAC brochures at the library. Dr. York will set up a calendar for members to volunteer to work the information station. VI. Discussion/Planning of Presentation to City of Wilmington and New Hanover County Chair Bryant absent, therefore, no discussion was held. VII.New Business: th Ms. Bradley-Thomas shared an overview of the 16 Annual Fair Housing Community Conference in Raleigh, NC, which was held on April 18, 2019. Some of the speakers included Susan Perry Cole, President and CEO of NC Association of CDCs, Jessica Holmes, Chair of Wake County Commissioners, James Perry, President and CEO of the Winston-Salem Urban League, among others. One of the focuses discussed was the link between natural disasters and wealth and equity. Examples were shared such as the Durham County Eviction Diversion Program which works in collaboration with DSS, Legal Aid, and Duke Civil Justice. It was encouraged as advocates of fair housing, the need to communicate to city and county government officials the need for equity in housing. VIII: Announcements: April 25 th YWCA Stand Against Racism event 6-8pm at the 1898 Memorial. th April 25 NAACP meeting 7pm at St. Stephens ndth April 22 -26 Re-Entry Week May 2 nd Spring Solution Series The Role of Faith Based Institutions in Affordable Housing. Hosted by the Cape Fear Housing Coalition. 8:30am at the MLK Center th May 4 Stop the Violence Event at Creekwood Community at 10:30am May 31 st NAACP 100 th Year Anniversary Celebration at the Wilmington Convention Center at 7pm. Tickets are $75. IX. Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 6:15pm.
