2019-05-28 Minutes AGENDA New Hanover County/City of Wilmington Community Relations Advisory Committee Programming Sub-Committee NHC Library – 101 Chestnut Street, New Hanover Room May 28, 2019 – 4:30 PM Programming Sub-Committee Members Present: Evelyn Bryant, Jen Johnson, Elise Rocks, Lori Wainright Absent: Jeffrey Hovis and Kristen McKeithan Staff Present: Tufanna L. Bradley-Thomas Citizens: None I. Call to Order Ms. Wainright called the meeting to order at 4:48 p.m. A quorum was established. II. Approve Agenda MOTION: Ms. Bryant MOVED, SECONDED by Ms. Johnson, to approve the agenda as presented. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNAMIMOUSLY. III. Old Business  Resource Contact List – Ms. Wainright discovered the NCWorks Community Assistance Resource Guide that the C-RAC could use or merge with the current list. It was also stated that the City of Wilmington used to maintain a list years ago and that possibly Suzanne Rogers may know more specifics about it.  Implicit Bias Training – The sub-committee asked Ms. Thomas to find out when will there be an Implicit Bias training for them to attend. It was also discussed that Ms. Thomas acquire current data on the number of county staff that have completed Implicit Bias training prior to Evelyn’s presentation to the City of Wilmington.  Specific Groups/Organizations and Events – everyone will continue working on specific groups and organizations to include on the Group Information Form. Ms. Rocks pointed out the that sub-committee left off religion and volunteered to take it on. IV. New Business There was no new business. PURPOSE: The committee was established by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners and Wilmington City Council for the purpose of addressing community issues involving prejudice or discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, creed or religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition; informing the Appointing Authorities and other organizations of their findings; and making recommendations, in an advisory capacity, to the Appointing Authorities and other organizations, as necessary. Action Items & Next Steps Several action items were discussed:  Merge NCWorks Community Assistance Resource Guide with C-RAC’s current resource list and the City’s list into one master list specific to services to assist individuals experiencing prejudice and discrimination and have a draft before the next meeting (Ms. Wainright)  Inquire whether the City of Wilmington still has a resource list that can be shared (Ms. Wainright)  Acquire current numbers of county staff who have completed Implicit Bias training to include in Evelyn’s presentation to the city and county (Ms. Thomas)  Find out the next Implicit Bias training that will be open to C-RAC members (Ms. Thomas)  Follow specific groups affected or impacted by prejudice or discrimination on social media (ALL)  Continue to update resource contact list (ALL in Google Drive)  Research and document organizations/events regarding national origin and race (Ms. Wainright)  Research and document organizations/events regarding the Hispanic and LGBT communities (Ms. McKeithan)  Research and document organizations/events regarding disability (Ms. Johnson)  Research and document organizations/events regarding women (Mr. Hovis)  Research and document organizations/events regarding religion (Ms. Rocks)  Update Group Information form as C-RAC members provide information (Ms. Thomas) VIII.
