1999-03-08 Water & Sewer NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICTBOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, MARCH 8, 1999 PAGE 487 ASSEMBLY The District Board of Commissioners of the New Hanover County Water and Sewer District met in Regular Session on Monday, March 8, 1999, at 11:12 p.m. in the New Hanover County Courthouse Assembly Room, 24 North Third Street, Wilmington, North Carolina. Members present were: District Commissioner Buzz Birzenieks; District Commissioner Ted Davis, Jr; District Commissioner William A. Caster; Vice-Chairman Charles R. Howell; Chairman Robert G. Greer; County Manager, Allen O’Neal; County Attorney, Wanda M. Copley; and Clerk to the District Board, Lucie F. Harrell. Chairman Greer called the meeting to order. NON-AGENDA ITEMS Chairman Greer announced that time had been reserved to allow the public to present an item that was not listed on the Regular Agenda. He requested all persons speaking to limit their remarks to three minutes. No items were presented. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion: District Commissioner Birzenieks MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Caster to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on February 1, 1999 as presented by the District Clerk. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. ADDITIONAL ITEMS Discussion of Offer from a Company to Purchase the New Hanover County Water Systems Chairman Greer reported that a letter had been received from an outside company interested in purchasing the County’s water systems. He asked if the Board was interested in pursuing the issue. Consensus: After discussion, it was the consensus of the District Board to schedule a Work Session and invite the officials of the company to present and discuss the offer. Authorization for the District to Include the Glenwood Mobile Home Park in the Brookfield/Brierwood and Weaver Acres Sewer Construction Chairman Greer informed the District Commissioners that Mr. Carroll Spencer, owner of Glenwood Mobile Home Park, appeared before the District Board on September 21, 1998, and he requested the District to accelerate sewer construction in the Brookfield/Brierwood area and Weaver Acres to assist residents experiencing septic tank failures in the vicinity. The District Board voted to direct the Engineering Department to accelerate sewer construction to include these areas. When Mr. Spencer inquired about the availability of the sewer line to the Glenwood Mobile Home Park, NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICTBOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, MARCH 8, 1999 PAGE 488 he was informed by the Engineering Department that the construction plan did not include the mobile home park. Chairman Greer said it was his understanding that the Glenwood Mobile Home Park would be included in the plan when taking action on September 21, 1998. He requested the District Board to approve including the mobile home park as part of the sewer construction. Consensus: It was the consensus of the Board to direct the Engineering Department to include the Glenwood Mobile Home Park in the sewer construction project for Brookfield/Brierwood and Weaver Acres. ADJOURNMENT Motion: District Commissioner Birzenieks MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Davis to adjourn. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
