Greer, Chairman ATTEST: ~ .J~ P ~, hp,t! , Clerk to the Board ' ~ R# 29.14.3 RESOLUTION OF THE NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WHEREAS, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), along with several regional Chambers of Commerce, is hosting a "Carolinas 1-73 Transportation Summit" on February] 0-11,2005, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and WHEREAS, the North Carolina Board of Transportation and the South Carolina Board of Transportation have held several joint meetings to discuss the issue of common accord with respect to a system of improvements including 1-74 to the Wilmington area and I-20 from Florence, South Carolina to Whiteville, North Carolina, in addition to 1-73 to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and WHEREAS, these Interstate connections were presented by the Governor of North Carolina as the Governor' s Transport~tion Plan for Southeastern North Carolina in April 2003 in Wilmington; and WHEREAS, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners encourages the inclusion of the entire package of improvements of interest to both states, to include I-74, 1-20 and I-73 in the South Carolina summit; and' WHEREAS, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners would like to encourage the South Carolina Department of Transportation to reconsider a joint summit that includes all three Interstate connections; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners does hereby express its support for any future joint summits to discuss 1-74, 1-20 and 1-73, but withholds support for a summit that does not include a discussion of all three projects, ADOPTED this the 24th day of January, 2005, WAJ~ Robert G.
