1997-04-07 Water & Sewer NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT BOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, APRIL 7, 1997PAGE 366 ASSEMBLY The District Board of Commissioners of the New Hanover County Water and Sewer District met in Regular Session on Monday, April 7, 1997, at 12:16 P.M. in the Assembly Room of the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 North Third Street, Wilmington, North Carolina. Members present were: District Commissioners Buzz Birzenieks; Ted Davis, Jr.; Robert G. Greer; Vice-Chairman Charles R. Howell; Chairman William A. Caster; County Manager, Allen O'Neal; County Attorney, Wanda M. Copley; and Clerk to the District Board, Lucie F. Harrell. Chairman Caster called the meeting to order. NON-AGENDA ITEMS Chairman Caster asked if anyone from the public would like to present an item not listed on the Regular Agenda. No items were presented. ACCEPTANCE OF WATER SYSTEM IN GREAT OAKS SUBDIVISION County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, reported the developer of the Great Oaks Subdivision has requested the District to accept a water system in the new development located in the Middle Sound area. The first phase of the project will begin with 50 lots and expand to 500 lots. He recommended acceptance of the water system for ownership, operation and maintenance by the Water and Sewer District. Motion: District Commissioner Greer MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Birzenieks to accept the water system in the Great Oaks Subdivision as recommended by the County Engineer. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. ADDITIONAL ITEM Discussion of Collocation of Communication Towers on New Hanover County Water Towers District Commissioner Greer requested the County Engineer to work with telephone companies in collocation of communication towers on the District's water towers whenever possible. He advised this option could reduce the need for more communication towers and bring in rental revenue for the Water and Sewer District. County Engineer Blanchard reported the District had not been approached by the telephone companies; however, other counties had offered collocation at stipulated rental fees. Consensus: After further discussion, it was the consensus of the District Board for the County Manager to write a letter to the telephone companies and offer collocation of communication towers on the District's water towers NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT BOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, APRIL 7, 1997PAGE 367 at a specified rental charge. Report on Tour of Sewer Facilities in New Hanover County Chairman Caster reported that he and Vice-Chairman Howell went on a tour of the sewer facilities in New Hanover County. He advised the tour was most informative and urged the other members of the District Board to arrange for a tour. ADJOURNMENT Motion: District Commissioner Birzenieks MOVED, SECONDED by Vice-Chairman Howell to adjourn. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Chairman Caster adjourned the meeting at 12:29 P.M.
