1997-05-19 Water & Sewer NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT BOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, MAY 19, 1997PAGE 373 ASSEMBLY The District Board of Commissioners of the New Hanover County Water and Sewer District held a Regular Meeting on Monday, May 19, 1997, at 11:36 P.M. in the Assembly Room of the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 North Third Street, Wilmington, North Carolina. Members present were: District Commissioners Buzz Birzenieks; Ted Davis, Jr.; Robert G. Greer; Vice-Chairman Charles R. Howell; Chairman William A. Caster; County Manager, Allen O'Neal; County Attorney, Wanda M. Copley; and Clerk to the Board, Lucie F. Harrell. Chairman Caster called the meeting to order. NON-AGENDA ITEMS Chairman Caster announced that time has been reserved to allow anyone from the public to present an item was not listed on the Regular Agenda. He requested all persons speaking to limit their remarks to three minutes. No items were presented. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion: District Commissioner Birzenieks MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Davis to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 5, 1997, as presented by the Clerk to the District Board. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT (CONTRACT 97-0390) TO PURCHASE A SITE FROM ARNOLD L. SOBOL AND WIFE, FLORENCE SOBOL, FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE MOTTS CREEK PUMP STATION County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, reported that Staff had been negotiating with Dr. Sobol and his wife to purchase a site for construction of the Motts Creek Pump Station which will be located near the intersection of Motts Creek and River Road. The pump station and force main will serve the Monkey Junction area and the southern end of the county. An agreement has been reached for purchase of the site from Dr. Sobol for $12,000 contingent upon the following conditions: (1) a 20-foot buffer must be established around the perimeter using existing and new vegetation; (2) a green or brown wire mesh fence must be placed around the site; (3) the provision of wastewater treatment capacity for 120 residential units; and (4) an appropriation of $6,000 for plants to be placed in the buffer. Motion: District Commissioner Greer MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Birzenieks to approve a contract with Dr. and Mrs. Sobol to purchase a site in the amount of $12,000 for construction of the Motts Creek pump station contingent upon the requirements listed above. The Chairman was authorized to execute the contract documents. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. A copy of the contract is on file in the Legal Department.
