HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-05-15 Water & Sewer NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT BOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, MAY 15, 1995PAGE 233 ASSEMBLY The District Board of Commissioners of the New Hanover County Water & Sewer District met in Regular Session on Monday, May 15, 1995, at 4:42 P.M. in the Assembly Room of the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 North Third Street, Wilmington, North Carolina. Members present were: District Commissioners William A. Caster; Robert G. Greer; William E. Sisson, Jr.; Vice-Chairman Sandra Barone; Chairman E. L. Mathews, Jr.; County Manager, Allen O'Neal; County Attorney, Wanda M. Copley; and Clerk to the District Board, Lucie F. Harrell. Chairman Mathews called the meeting to order. NON-AGENDA ITEMS Chairman Mathews inquired as to whether anyone from the general public would like to present an item not listed on the Regular Agenda. No items were presented. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion: District Commissioner Greer MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Caster to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 1, 1995, as presented by the Clerk to the District Board. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT A DRAINAGE EASEMENT IN THE LAND'S END SUBDIVISION FOR UTILITY PURPOSES County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, requested the Commissioners to adopt a resolution to accept an offer for a Drainage Easement in the Land's End Subdivision. The acceptance is for the purpose of providing water and sewer service to the adjacent property. Motion: After discussion of the easement being accepted for utility purposes, Vice-Chairman Barone MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Sisson to adopt the resolution as presented. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. A copy of the resolution is hereby incorporated as a part of the minutes and is contained in W&S Exhibit Book II, Page 15. DISCUSSION OF PRIVATE SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEMS District Commissioner Sisson advised the District Board of the problems being experienced by homeowner associations with private sewer collection systems that were not constructed to County specifications. When the County sewer becomes available, these systems cannot be accepted by the County because of non-compliance, and the homeowners are trapped into costs involved with operation and maintenance of these systems. He recommended preparing an NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT BOOK 2 REGULAR MEETING, MAY 15, 1995PAGE 234 amendment to the Water & Sewer Ordinance that will require any sewer collection system to be constructed to County specifications. ADJOURNMENT Motion: District Commissioner Greer MOVED, SECONDED by District Commissioner Caster to adjourn. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
