REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING, BOARD OF HEALTH
SEPTEMBER 9, 1937
Present: Chairman Addison Hewlett, Mayor Thos. E. Cooper,
Mr. H. M. Roland, Dr. J. C. Wessell, Dr. W. Houston Moore, and Dr. H. L. Keith.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
The Health Officer presented the monthly reports.
Mr. W. B. Campbell, city attorney, at the request of Mayor Cooper,
appeared before the Board to discuss the problem of weeds and vegetation
on vacant lots and any possible health hazards associated with such
surroundings. It was freely admitted by the Board members and the Health
Officer that heavy vegetation will harbor mosquitoes but will not in the
absence of standing water breed mosquitoes. After a rather general dis-
cussion, it was suggested by Mr. Campbell that a careful survey be made
and that a vacant lot that would constitute a definite health hazard be
used as an example in case action in court became necessary.
The Health Officer asked for and received the Board's authorization
for Mr. Edwards to attend the International Convention of Milk Inspectors
in Louisville, Ky., early in October.
There being no further business, the Board adjourned.
Approved: Oct. 14, 1937 A. H. Elliot, Clerk
