HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/10/1944 191 ( REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOARD OF REALlli HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD AUGUST 10. 1944 '- Presentl Mr. Addison Hewlett. Chairman. Mayor. Dr. Wessell and Dr. Moore. The minutes of the last meeting were read snd approved. The Health Officer presented the monthly reports. Mrs. Eugene Hicks came before the Board with a large spra,y apparatus with the suggestion that the Board members consider the feasibility of using this apparatus to spra,y some gemacidal preparation into all pit toilets. after each use. throughout the County snd also urged the Board to aiopt rigid regulations regarding the activities of children in an effort to control the spread of polio. She offered her seri'ices to help in sny wa,y possible in this work. At the request of the Health Officer. the medical lIIIlmbers of the Board were appointed as a committee to serve with the Health Officer to formulate regulations and take whatever action the polio situation might suggest. Such conmittee was applloVed ,and it was moved by Mayor Lane. seconded by Mr. Hewlett. that the Board approve whatever action this committee might take regarding the cloSing of public gatherings so far as children under fifteen years of age were concerned. Carried. It was moved by Dr. Wessell. seconded by Mayor Lane. that the opening of school in Wilmington and New Hanover County be postponed to September 18. Carried. In addition to any ban that might be put on children under fifteen attending public gatherings. it was urgently reco_ended that the other actiVities of children be reduced as much as poooible. and the parents of children be requested especially to keep children out of down tOllln areas as much as possible. By unanimous action. the Board accepted the resolutions of regret at the death of Mayor Csmeron as drawn up by the committee awointed for such purpose at the preceeding meeting.
