IlliGULAR MONTHLY ~iliETING BOAIW OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE'OF BOARD
FEBRUARY 9, 1949
Present: Mr. Addison Hewlett, Chairman, Dr. J. C. Knox, Dr. James H.
Smith and Mr. H. M. Roland.
The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
The Health Officer presented the monthly reports.

The Health Officer explained to the Board members that Mr. Albert Axler,
through Attorney Goldberg, requested that our Mr. Haas be permitted to
go with Mr. Axler to New York and surrounding territory to inspect and
study the construction of abattoirs with Mr. Axler taking care of Mr.
Haas' expense while out of town. It was moved by Mr. Roland, seconded
by Dr. Knox, that this request be approved. Carried.

The Health Ufficer reported to the Board members the fluoride contents
of the local wells in 1945, and that a report from the State Laboratory of
Hygiene showed absolutely no fluoride in the City water on January 31, 1940.
He also reported to the Board members that Dr. Branch had promised to come
down and discuss the application of fluoride to the teeth of school children.
The Health Ufficer explained to the Board members that our Representative
in the State Legislature had introduced a bill to put the inspection of
plumbing and collection of fees for the same at C.arolina Beach entirely
under the control of the town of Carolina Beach which would eliminate our
department from ins~ecting the plllmbing or collecting the fees. The Health
Officer was instructed to see our Representative over the week-end in an
attempt to have the bill withdrawn.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
