HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/25/1951 ~ , L_ [J 73 REGULAR HONTHLY MEETING BOAlill OF HEALTH HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD JULY 25, 1951 Present: Mr. Addison Hewlett, Chainnan; Mayor E. L. White, Dr. J. C. Wessell, Jr. J. C. Knox, Dr. James H. Smith and Mr. H. M. Roland. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The Health Officer explained the tubercular case of Mr. Earl Annstrong, which was to have been tried in court but was settled outside by his being admitted to the Tuberculosis Sanatorium, and asked for a ruling on all such similar cases in the future. Mayor White stated that this matter is in the hands of the Health Officer and he was authorized by the Board to carry on with this work as he thinks best. The Health Officer explained t~e problem arlSlng out of the condemnation of houses belonging to Mr. Emmett Bellamy at Nos. 1114 and 1116 North 9th Streets and Nos. 1113 and 1115 North loth Street due to unsanitary conditions. After a discussion of this problem; it was moved by Mayor White, seconded by Dr. Wessell, that the Health Officer be empowered to carry out the laws regarding cases similar to that of Mr. Bellamy's. Carried. Correspondence from the Merit System Division. of the State Board of Health raised the question as to whether Dr. Davis, Health Officer, would have a right to draw vacation time pay from the State Board of Health and at the same time be paid by the Wilmington Consolidated Board of Health for that month inasmuch as 29% of the salaries of this department come from Federal funds. In view of the above question and since there were local funds available that were carried over from the 1950-1951 budget; it was moved by Dr. Wessell, seconded by Mr. Roland, that the May salary of Dr. Davis be paid in full from local funds. Carried. The remainder of the time of the meeting was devoted to discussing the proposed plumbing code. Mr. R. H. Kennon appeared as spokeman for the proposed code sub- mitted by the plumbers. He discussed in detail the various items in this code. No action was taken. Present at this meeting were Messrs. Allie Moore, Senior and Junior; also Mr. C. C. Davis and Hr. Jimmie Yopp, members of the Board of Plumbing Examiners. There being no further busihess, the meeting adjourned.
