Present: Mayor E. L. \ihite; Dr. J. C. \'iessell, Dr. James H. Smith, Dr.
J. C. Knox and Mr. H. h. Roland.
The minutes of the last meetinl' "Iere read and apIlroved.
The monthly reports were mailed to the Board members after the Board
meeting.
The Health Officer explained the condition of Nr. Pender Durham I s septic
tank draininG into an open ditch. After a discussion of this matter the
Heal th Ufficer was instructed to take the case to court, if the condition
was not corrected.
Dr. C. P. Stevick,of the State Board of Health, was present and gave some
statistics on diphtheria cases in North Carolina. He stated that New Hanover
County Nas fifth among the counties of the State in incidents of diphtheria.
It was brought out in general discussion that this was probably larr"ely a
matter of reporting cases of non-clinical diphtheria found through laboratory
exarnination of approximately eieht or nin'3 hundred throat cultures per year.
The Health ufficer WdS instructea to write Durham County and some other
counties determining the number of throat cultures examined and what they
were reporting to the State Board of Health as diphtheria cases, clinical or
.laboratOlJT.
Dr. SidneJ' Lee,of the U. S. Public Health Service, was present dnl-called upon
for any remarks he wished to make. He aiscussed briefly his V. D. work with
the New Hanover County Health DepartNent and the Onslow County Health Depart-
ment.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
