HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/07/1954 r~ L i i .~-..J 145 REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING BOARD OF HEALTH HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD JULY 7, 1954 Present: Chairman Ralph T. Horton, Mayor E. L. White, Dr. James H. Smith, ahd Dr. J. C. Knox. On motion by Dr. Knox, seconded by Mayor i<1hite, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting was dispensed with. Chairman Horton reported that Mr. Jordan had contacted him regarding some plumbing. Mr. Jordan of Clinton appeared before the Board and stated that, due to his ignorance of the laws governing plumbing in thiS County, he had done some plumbing work on a place of his own without a permit and whert this plumbing work was discovered and examined by the Plumbing Inspector he was notified that it did not meet the requirements of this County and that corrections would have to be made. Mr. Jordan protested making these corrections on the basis of cost to him. Mr. Holland, Plumbing Inspector, told the Board wherein the work done at Mr. Jordan's did not meet specifications of the plumbing code. On motion by Mayor White, seconded by Dr. Smith, the Board appointed a committee to meet with Mr. Jordan and determine what, if any, of the existing plumbing work could remain and what would have to be changed. The committee was to be composed of Mr. Lassiter, Mr. Holland, Mr. Potter and Chairman Horton of the Board of Health. Chairman Horton read a letter from Mr. David Jacobi charging that c,rtain employees of this department had recommended specific cleaning material. The Board recommended that employees be careful not to recommend a specific material and that the Health Officer write a letter expressing to Mr. Jacobi that it was not the policy of the health department to recommend specific trade items. Chairman Horton discussed his meeting with Mr. Stone of Brunswick County regarding the securing of Dr. Davis I services two days a month as health officer. Mayor White suggested that Dr. Davis be given $400.00 of the $1200.00 offered by Brunswick County. Dr. Davis stated he would not accept the proposition as outlined. On motion by Mayor White, seconded by Dr. Knox, a committee composed of Chairman Horton, Dr.Davis, County Attorney, Yaw,and City Attorney, Campbell go into the matter and that this committee be given the power to act. Carried. J Mr. Lassiter reported on a meeting with the Kure Beach authorities with regard to forcing residents of Kure Beach to connect to the City sewer. The Board was in agreement with the thought expressed by Mr. Lassiter that the function of this de- partment should be moral support rather than institution of legal processes which is the function of the Kure Beach authorities. Chairman Horton said the County Commissioners would like to have a recommendation for. or against the purchase of a turbine to be used in the mosquito-fly program. Mr. Lassiter and the Health Officer stated that inasmuch as no money was available for additional material for this piece Rf e9.uipment at this time that we continue with the equipment we now have.
