Knox. ~!otion was made. by Dr. Knox that the minutes of the last meeting be approved without reading; copies havinG beon sent to the Board members. Motion seconded by Dr. Smith and carried. Chairman Hall made inquiry as to the status of tho GaloG plU!llbing situation. !:Ir. la:"iter reported that a warrant had been secured for Mr. Galog on the t\Vo 'lashing j(.achines installation, fol10\Ving the Board's i!lstructions to indict him on plumbing violations, The Judge of Recorder's Court suspended judgment on ~Ir. Galog until I'February 15, 1960, to perm.it time for the correction of these two job.. These jobs have been corrected. Mr. lassiter reported that the :"2.00 for extra plurnbing visits necessitated by incorrect installation of plumbing jobs by Mr. Galog had not been paid. I>lr. The Health Officer and Hiss Davis, . Nurse Supervisor, discussed the health departinent building at Shallotte. The Board asked the Health Director to make an investigation regarding the possibility of using Hill-Burton funds. The possibility of moving into a Coast Line Building was mentioned. lio further actiOlL'tIaS taken at this time. he Health Director urged all meobers of the Board to r"ad carefully Dr. Spielberger's Y'8porL on the mental health program. l;e stated that Dr. Fink, Dir'cctor of Hental Health Division, State Board of Health, had requested eighty (80) copies for distribution to the other counties in the State. Both the Health Director and llurse Supervisor 'lere very enthusiastic about the Ne" Hanover Coooty approach to the mental health problem and to Dr. Spielberger's work here during this past year. Dr. Knox felt that the proper organization for a workable mental healt;l program must be coordinated by the State Hoard of Health, utilizing the various health departments throughout the State. ~~ss Davis, llurse Supervisor, reported on the follow-up \\fork that is now being done by the nurses in the local health departments on mental cases that have returned from the variuus lClohtal institutions. She also stated that seven (7) of the nurses in this health departlnent had received spec.ial training in the mental institutions in this State. The Health Director stated that Hiss Davis had been ap;Jointed to a cOlnmittee to study and make recolTh'llendations regarding the Division of l1ental Health and salaries of the mental heD.lth personnel. 'The Health Director infonlled the Board that a Seminar on Diabetic Case-Finding, at the request of the U. S. Public Health Service and the Chronic Disease Section of the St~tte Doard of Health, is to be held in vlilmington I'L,rch 14 and 15, 1960. He read to the Board a tentative progrrull for this meeting. A great many folk, both State and National, are very interested in the promotion throughout the United States of the " 290 type program WiJJldngton has car~'ied out on diabetic case-findin(; for the last two years. ~ The Health Director stressed the objectives of this Seminar which are hereby made a portion of these ffill1utes. - 1. To interest the local health deparl.ments of North Carolina in diabeLes case-finding as a regular part of thu health department service. 2. Inter-disciplinary approach in th8 health department. 3. To improve the body of knov:ledge that health department workers have rcgarding diabetes anu professional cducation of the physician in the corrrrnunity. 4. To demonstrate the practicability of small health departments playint, an important role in chronic disease case-finding without specially trained technical laboratory personnel. ~!otion to adjourn ,;as made by Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Smith.
